What makes it better?

you just have to ride it out sadly try getting some fresh air as mentioned or occupying yourself with a task (washing the dishes, going for a walk etc) anything that may take your mind off the "problem"

it will go and when it does you will be left wondering what the fuss was about :)

I've suffered with panic and anxiety for over 7 years now so can fully sympathise with your problem, just remember as much as it feels real what you're experiencing can't hurt you, you're breathing but you're thinking about it and questionning it which makes it seem worse.

all the best Lee

Usually really cold air works for me. If it's not cold where you are, open the freezer door and stand there for a few minutes. Stick your head right in there. It doesn't work for me if I take deep breaths (deep breathing doesn't work for me), but if I try to breath normally in cold air, I get back to normally pretty quickly.

Get a desk fan the bigger the better..spray your face with a fine water spray if not got one just splash your face at the sink..and sit in front of the fan on full speed..that REALLY helps me..I have a fan in every room and 2 air conditioners that throw out icey air..nothing helps me more..

I am struggling with this one too at the moment, I have had this on and off for ages. Take the advise of the posts above and try distraction. I get it just sat down doing nothing which really scares me, but I know that I am not helping myself as I am so tense all the time which aggravates the breathing issues too.
I so sympathize with you on this one, this is a symptom of anxiety and it will pass.
Take Care

It can get where you feel it is controlling you, but do try (easier said than done I know) to distract yourself for a little while. I had an appointment at the hospital yesterday (not breathing related) and I was so anxious I was struggling for breathe giving my name in at reception, yet on the way home I was fine, anxiety does play all kinds of horrible tricks on us. we have to learn that we are in control and not the anxiety, have you tried to do any relaxation today?

Some times I can have it for days on end, other times it just happen for a short while, it does vary, which I think is due to how much I focus on it.
That's how I feel like I'm not getting enough air, it is so common with anxiety.
It is so hard to ignore I know but try to think if you have been like this all day if it was anything serious you probably wouldn't have got through the day.
About two years ago I had the same feeling for months but I was so focused on my breathing I just made it worse, I ended up going to see a lung specialist at the hospital, he said my lungs where healthy, and how strange after that I didn't have the symptom for a long time.
