I have had this awful condition since I was 14, I am now 42. I am going to tell the doctor about it for the first time tomorrow, but my question is, can you really recover from OCD with help? :weep: I have my doubts as I feel I am a hopeless case because I`ve had it for so long.

I have had ocd since I was 11 or 12 I am 48 now.
Mine seems to flare up when something goes wrong in my life which seems to be very often
Good luck at the doctors

Yes you can I have had OCD since I am a child/teenager and although it does sometimes flare up again I know how to handle it - and have long periods when it is not there at all.

a mixture or Medication, CBT, Mindfullness and acceptance helped me.

Yes you can. I counted, ate, thought ocd for a long long time. I developed a trick of my mind. I told myself that it would be "unlucky" for me to ever feel that "ok moment" when I had finished counting. Also, that the sooner I stopped counting, especially midstream and felt more uncomfortable, the more lucky I would in reality actually be. Sort of turned all my thinking on its head - it worked!

I went to see te doctor this morning and he is arranging some help for me through a specialist councillor. So, maybe with the right help I will get better. I hope so.
