Moles are small dark marks on the skin. They are a collection of skin pigment cells called melanocytes.
Moles are usually brownish, although some may be darker or skin-coloured. They can be flat or raised, smooth or rough, and some have hair growing from them. Moles are usually circular or oval in shape, with a smooth edge.
They can start to look different over time and sometimes respond to hormonal changes, such as during pregnancy, adolescence and the menopause. Some moles even disappear over time or fall off, often without you realising.

Melanomas are more likely to have an irregular shape and be more than one colour, and they are often larger than 6mm (1/4 inch) in diameter. A melanoma may also be itchy and may bleed.
A good way to tell the difference between a normal mole and a melanoma is to use the ABCD checklist:

A stands for asymmetrical - melanomas have two very different halves and are an irregular shape.
B stands for (irregular) border - unlike a normal mole, melanomas have a notched or ragged border.
C stands for (two or more) colours - melanomas will be a mix of two or more colours.
D stands for (large) diameter - unlike most moles, melanomas are larger than 6mm (1/4 inch) in diameter.
If you are concerned about one of your moles, see your GP as soon as possible.

From NHS website, hope this helps - seems normal following those rules!

Nothing wrong with that . My wifes are bigger than 6 mm , and raised and different colours , she has had them checked out at the hospital and the doctors .....years and years ago , nothings changed since so she doesn,t worry .
My wife has several .

I can assure you that yours is totally normal. Trust your doc and relax its fine .

Bexy84 - ask him if he can remove it?

Chances are he will not really want to as it is a perfectly normal flat mole but if it is causing you anguish, he may agree to it.

I hope you don't mind me commenting Macc but I think that would be a really bad idea.

I remember from previous posts that bexy has fears about moles in general..it is a specific one now but has been others previously.

What if a harmless mole was removed..would the worry then transfer onto another one?

True that - one of the worst things about health anxiety, as soon as one thing goes another comes.

Bexy hun, best thing to do is to try and ignore it - change the thoughts about the mole into more positive ones:

"Ok - my mole was checked by doctor. He's a skin specialist (or has at least done some training in it) so he'd know what he's talking about. They've looked at it that many times (presumably) that they'd recognise if it was something to worry about. Moles can go cancerous yep - BUT I can reduce my risk by avoiding sunbeds in the future, avoiding bad sunburn and just generally keeping an eye on things - probably no more than every six months is necessary. They are usually only cancerous if they are getting bigger, sore or itchy, bleeding or changing shape and colour. However these things are not always necessarily cancer and can be explained otherwise as well. If I'm aware of how they look and check every six months or so I have very little to worry about as anything even slightly wrong would be picked up in the early stages"

Or words to that effect...

Try too and think about something else - put on a funny dvd, listen to some music, do some relaxation exercises, go for a long walk/drive - anything that calms you down :hugs:

Good luck x

I have already asked to have it removed and he said absolutly no need!! I want it removed though but he won't!! Thanks guys for support, the mole must look worse to me than it does to others, when I ask people they say that they wouldn't have even gone to the docs with it!

Hun honestly it looks absolutely normal - its just anxiety :) don't google skin cancer - it won't help. If you do, look up images and you will see your mole looks nothing like them :) You're fine, try to stop worrying :hugs:what is it that's making you think it's something to be worried about, what about the mole do you think is specifically wrong?

Your going to have to try and distract your self from keep looking at it !

Try promiseing yourself you will only look at it twice a day at a certain time , this way you know you are going to take another look , but it might help you get out of the habit .

Honestly , if you could see my wifes moles you would relise yours is completely normal !

One of my wifes was raised and bleeding , and crustry , thats why she got sent the hospital with it , this was years and years ago , it don,t look nice but its fine .
Shes not got just the one either . Its the HA thats causeing your worries , trust the doctor its fine .:yesyes:
