i dont know what's going on i just keep getting this stuff creeping up my throat and getting stuck at the back of my throat, i can't swallow it back down so have to either cough/push it up and spit it out .... it's really getting on my nerves and worrying me a bit too

any ideas what it might be, it's worse after eating (what little i do eat)

hey, i get this it is post nasal drip - mucus running down from your nose into your throat.. think it's worse when eating as the warmth thins the mucus?

either that or acid reflux, acid coming up into your mouth?

thanks for that, I think it's the post nasal stuff as it can occur when i breath... it's worrying as it ends up at the back of the throat after you've already swallowed and feels like it could go any of 3 ways...

at least this gives me and idea of what may be provoking my choking phobia and creating the sensastions

is there anything that can be done for it do you know?

it's horrible because it is so sticky, it's caused soo much of my anxiety problems too, completely sounds like post nasal drip to me and can leave me very breathless too and sometimes painful/stuffy nose!

my advice would try not to swallow it if you can... i often spit into a tissue (sorry TMI!!) but it does help as like you say the swallowing can be very sticky in your throat.

i also bought a neti pot, i got a plastic one from Neil-med and it's dramatically improved my symptoms - it's basically a nasal rinse, you can also get a spray that is a saline solution..

and i also use a steroid nasal spray, not ideal but helps a lot.

thanks for the advice, it's very much appreciated

I looked up nasal drip before and I have all the hall marks, this is certainly a major contributor to my choking phobia

I try not to swallow it (it seems to wind up in such a strange part of my throat thats its tough to do so and thats what makes me feel like i can't breath as I can't get rid of it either way)

I have been spitting it out when i can, I've gone through a shed load of kitchen roll doing so, but this aint a sustainable long term way of coping, can hardly keep doing that at a dinner party can I lol

I will discuss further with the GP tomorrow, wouldn't mind go for further tests to clear all doubts of any sinister goings on then I can really focus on the phsychological aspect of this with no doubts

I,ve had this since December , i keep coughing up thick clear mucous ??

Mentioned it to the Doc aswell as the feeling like my food is sticking when i eat and the globus and sensation in my back , said it was anxiety .
i get chest pain aswell so i think the doc thinks its all muscle tension but i don,t feel tense ?

There always seems like theres some flem stuck in my chest ?

Ahh well i,m just trying to forget about it all and get on with my life see if ignoreing it works !

Do me a favour mate , and update with what the doc says incase it helps some others on here .

Cheers :D

no problem mate will do

I can see her being really dismissive of it.... it seems it has to be an emergency for anyone to actually care/take action, which stopped me putting the wheels in motion before it got to this state

I just want to get on with my life, soup is a struggle to eat today. I am so weak and in pain now, headaches etc, hardly surprising but feels awful nonetheless

you could even have a sinus infection, if you have face pressure/pain/headaches too.

i dont think it's an infection as this has been happening for yonks, and has always been clear, it has just intensified lately to the point of prompting this choking issue

so tired now and drained, sis is popping round for hald hour with a still lucazade for me to sip

this is a sad existance for anyone but only a few months ago I was applying for sales management jobs, so glad I didn't get them in the end as the one i have now could be in jeopardy if this continues

Just an update for those who asked

I went to the GP who to be honest didn't say much about the constant phlegm, but she has refered me to the local ear, nose and throat specialist for piece of mind, which is a releif as if they can prove there is nothing wrong at least I can focus on beating this pyscologically, knowing nothing sinister is at play

Thanks for the update mate , i,m sure it will be nothing but peace of mind is whats needed .

I can see i,m going to end up with an appointment at the ENT specialist as mine is getting no better , i keep ignoreing it and telling myself that after 4 months if there was something sinister it would be getting worse (its not) , but its annoying me now , more the feeling of food sticking in my back at times .

Good luck you will be fine :yesyes:

Im sure it aint sinister but its damn right annoying at best, disconscerting more times than not and quite regularly panic inducing when it feels blocked up

It's hard to help you natural reaction when some sticky substance is stuck in your throat (jeez louise I couldn't think of a way to word that any better)

best of luck to you too mate, all will come good :yesyes:

Hi,
I understand it has been a while since your post about stringy phlem, chocking sensation but my 10 year old is experiencing the same symptoms, especially after eating. I would like to know if you had a final diagnosis. The doctor thinks it might be asthma, esophagitis or reflux. Would you please share it with me?
