Panicking Over Gastroenterologist Visit! Help!

Hi All,

I'm a 25 y/o female and have recently been having a lot of upper abdominal pain for almost two months. After I visited my GP, she gave me omeprazole as she just thought it was acid. I was on the medicine for two weeks and it did nothing! I still have pain in my upper abdomen on both sides of my body.

When I called back to say it hadn't worked, she said she was referring me to see a Gastroenterologist. I'm absolutely terrified! Would they send me to a specialist for just acid? I'm so scared of cancer. I see in the news where people in their 20s are dying of cancer every day and my mom had cancer a few years ago, so I'm absolutely positive that I'll get it too. Please offer some advice on what I can do to calm down until I see the specialist. Thank you!

I am on Omreprazole it takes time, eventhough have been on it for years it still come back sometime do you eat regularly , I get the achey feeling in upper abdomen its horrible, try having a rich tea biscuit every hour, tabs took 3-4 weeks to kick in

Totally agree with Mary , 2 weeks is nothing on a ppi med .

Its taken 3 months for mine to settle down and thats with a 30 mg ppi (lanzoprazle) plus ranitidine .

It can take 3-4 weeks for the omeprazle to work , i had them at first and they didn,t help so they changed my meds . Nothing to pannick about these things take time unfortuneately .
