Hello,

Thought I would list some tests/results I have had and see what other people have had done as well.

Endoscopy - Gastritis
ECG - Clear
Lung Xray - Clear
Back MRI - Clear
Back Xray - Clear
Abdominal Xray - Clear
Abdominal Ultrasound - Clear
Lupus Test (history in fam.) - Clear
Diabetes - Clear
Thyroid - Normal
6 other Blood Tests - Clear
4 Urine Tests - 2 Clear, 2 abnormal results but apparently fine
Physical Exams - Clear
Foot Pain, Physical Exam - Cellulitis

I find it confusing, the foot pain one especially. I had an itch, then a massive bump formed, then the doctor said it a spot from anxiety so left it, then i couldnt walk, then the A&E doc said it was an infection and I needed to take antibiotics straight away.

Anyway, how about you?

Omg where to start
just about every blood test under the sun
all have been normal except

enlarged red blood cells,
that turned out to be a quite sever vitamin b12 deficiany

ENA (esting for auto immune illness)
positive and still under investigatio

RO/SSA ant-bodies
positive also still under ivestigation

Rheumatoid factor
Mildly positive

White blood cell count
Slightly elevated

MRI scan, Ct scan, chest xray, ecg's, 24 hour tapes, blood gasses, glucose tolerance test, schimmers test, 24 hour urine collection, ( on 3 occasions, was a bloody nightmare) neurological tests,

I have had so many over the years, i am sure there are lots more, i can't remember other than a few all my test have been ok. when i get the results of their being a problem with some of my bloods i was shocked as i always expect negative results lol

This used to worry me too, I've only had an ECG. If your doctor thought it was necessary, they'd send you for the tests you need so don't panic. Trust your doc that you're ok xx

Em don't let that worry you, i am 31 so alot older than you and hav been ill on and off for many years, i also have M.E too so alot of my tests were neccessary before the doctors could officially give me the diagnosis of M.E. but look at all the tests people have had and the fact that they were nearly all ok, we have spent alot of time having tests and going through the worry of waiting for results, that was alot of wasted time x

Ive had a few in the last few months but not as many as some.
4x blood tests: tested for loads of things. ESR been raised all 4 times and HLA positive (don't know. rest ok.
back x ray (waiting for results and v scared)
epidural next week as well
Its a visciuos circle - you want the tests to put your mind at rest but when your doc sends you for a test you think...well they must be worried if they have sent me for a test so there must be something bad wrong.
Hope we all don't have to go through this for long:scared15:

Dont be worried, i havent had any tests done either, but i trust my doctor and if he though it necessary it would send me im sure.

Alot of people ask for these tests to put their minds at rest, but i am petrified of doctors and hospitals so not going for any tests is fine by me lol

Since last June I've had:

2 chest x-rays - clear
Pelvic ultrasound - clear
breast ultrasound - normal
CT scan - normal
CRP blood test - normal
Blood test for coeliac disease - normal
full blood count x 2 - high white blood cell count on first one
Smear - normal

I'm seeing a chest specialist on 17th March and will have another chest x-ray and various other tests. I also have another appt at The Breast Clinic on Monday and will probably have another ultrasound.

Blood tests because I was worried about a swollen gland.
These were fine but they showed elevated liver function! Which was fine the month after, but showed me the anxiety that testing can cause!
Everything else has been sexual health checks. I've had 2 private HIV tests, which is such a ridiculous waste of money, but just because they can do them at 4 weeks. Then numerous swabs..

Oh, and when I was younger I had fainting fits and febrile convulsions (which I think set off health anxiety) so was always having tests then :-( Can remember being little and having things stuck on my head to measure brain waves ...

OMG, I'll get shot down for this but as Nicola says, the cost to the NHS of all this must be horrendous! (I'm actually not blaming the sufferers here but the docs who ok all this stuff)

I was once told every visit to your GP costs the NHS £19. Not quite sure how it works, but there you go!

Blimey, I think I have to agree with this as well, so everyone can shoot me down as well, Jane.

My GP only ever refers me for tests when he really, really thinks it's necessary - so I've had very few of these. I wouldn't want to anyway - I hate being "poked about" and would far rather that I'm left alone unless he thought there was something seriously wrong with me.

Also, having worked for our poor, beleagured NHS for years, I know the huge pressure it's under every day. The cost can be enormous, especially for the specialist tests like MRIs because the running costs of the equipment is so high.

I know, I've never been given tests that weren't necessary though.. I could make a big list spaced out over 20 years, would be really long but all down to illness and ops and stuff :noangel: but I'm usually too blimmn scared to ask for tests, worried about their reaction etc. It does make you wonder though, that doctors might be over cautious sometimes x

I do hate tests too though, I cried when they did the ECGs haha (which only mucked up the results so they had to do them again!)

Most of my tests have been private, since I get private health insurance through work, so Doctor refers me privately so the NHS don't have to pay.

Only NHS ones have been blood tests and a copy of X rays.
