Hi,

I've been to the doctors this morning with the following symptoms which I thought may be due to MS or a brain tumour:
*funny feeling in my hands & feet
*headache/dizziness
*ringing in the ears
*pain in my calfs and forearms as well as left shoulder
*stiff neck
*clumsiness and misjudging things i.e. missing the door handle

My GP was great. He did all the usual tests for co-ordination and he spent a long time chatting about how I feel in general. He said that all of the above can be caused by anxiety. Especially the hands and feet as they are easily affected by our anxiety levels. I also have CFS (chronic fatigue syndrome) which I thought I was over but he thinks this could be attributing to the symptoms too.
He is a senior partner at our practice and really knows his stuff, so when he says I have nothing to worry about, I believe him. I hope this might put some of your minds at rest (even though it's the same old thing of putting it all down to anxiety - maybe he is right).

K xx

Hey,

Thanks for posting...I have all of the things you have mentioned!! And you know I'm terrified about MS. I do have a referral, as mentioned, to the neurologist to put my mind at rest (hopefully). I have had reflex tests etc, only a couple of weeks ago with a pyhsio about my pelvic probs and everything was fine. Your post has given me a little bit of hope that it is anxiety, as I am desperate to get on with my life!!! Thanks xxx

Glad it may have helped. MY GP did say that those reflex tests, although very simple, are very accurate/helpful. Can't wait to get on with my life too. I have one hurdle left, an appt with a chest specialist on Thursday, then hopefully I can put HA behind me (until the next thing comes up ).

Oh. forgot to add that GP said the clumsiness/co-ordination problems can be caused by our minds being so far away from what we are doing because we are constantly worrying about our health. I know in my case that is very true - I'm off in cloud cuckoo land all the time !!!

Thanks hun. Its good to know that those reflex tests are accurate...I'm sure sometimes I imagine some of them!! I have an xray on thursday on my pelvis to check my bones! Sometimes I wish that they would just find something, non-serious and treatable- its like I need some sort of answer!!

I know exactly what you mean. At least if they found something it would explain the pain/symptoms, it's when you're told there's nothing wrong but the pain continues???? Good luck on Thursday chick xx

Excellent thread Kah - it's a great step forward that you have been able to accept your doctor's reassurances. Hope you can stay on the right track. I suffer from anxiety an CFS while my husband has MS - it's amazing how similar some of our symptoms are xxx

Thanks for postine Jane- I always feel incredibly insensitive when I hear from someone who is affected by ms, either directly or indirectly...I hope you don't think that. Fear and anxiety really does suck :( xx

No worries Pan. It used to sometimes upset me when people posted worrying about MS but I think I've grown to understand why they do, when the symptoms do seem to similar. Take care and I hope things are all right with you xxx

Thanks. I have a long wait for my appointment...just have to be patient. I agree with what you said- especially for people with health anxiety- the symptoms can be so similar and then those symptoms just further feed the fear. Its a vicious circle I suppose xx
