Hi,

I seem to have had problems for as long as I can remember with my digestive system. If its not constipation then its diarhea (spelling?), and now I can hardly eat anything before I am feeling bloated and full and feeling sick too but normally I can eat quite a lot and feel fine. I am thinking all sorts as usual and I am totally convinced that I have some sort of obstruction and that I am going to die. Sorry about being so forthright with some of the details but I am seriously worried and I wondered if anyone has had this and can give any advice?

Angie

Could it be IBS? or an intolerance to some foods.

Have you asked the doctor?

Hi, I have not been to the doctor about this full feeling yet but was seeing him about the constipation thingee, which he just said is one of those things. I feel like they are fed up of seeing me now so I am trying to hold off from going all the time!

Does IBS make you feel full, even when you have not eaten? As today I ate at about 1pm and was sick after and I still feel full now, like something is stuck just at the top of my stomach, kind of below the breasts but in the middle? I have also had a painin this area quite a few times which also radiates through to my back! I am doing the usual thing in thinking that I have this obstruction or even worse, cancer or something like that! I hate being like this but am in that mode where I can't seem to stop myself.

Hi Angie

IBS can cause constipation, bloating and diarrhoea. Have you read this article (http://www.nomorepanic.co.uk/default.asp?t=cms&c=ibs) on the home pages.

It would be worth seeing a different doctor if your doctor is not very sympathetic.

Hi again, thank you for your replies. It does sound and feel a lot like IBS, you are right! But me being me, it is so much easier to think it is something else all the time. I will make an appointment to see my GP tomorrow and see how that goes. Still feeling uncomfortable today and all I have eaten is a couple of potaotes and some cauliflower yet still feel like I got a whole cow in my stomach!

Ooh I have IBS and cauliflower is a big culprit for stomach pains and bloating for me.

If it is IBS seeing a dietician for advice can help.

Good luck for the doctor's tomorrow.

Hi again,

I am now convinced I have a Hiatus Hernia, all my symptoms fit and I am worrying like mad! Does anybody have any info for me about this and is it really bad? Going to see my GP today, it was the earliest appointment I could get! Will fire this question at him too when I get there!

me again, not long been back from the doctors and he has confirmed that I have a hiatus hernia. Now I am totally freaking out! I mean what now, I don't know what to do! He did'nt even examine me and he told me thats what I have.
I know I need to lose weight but how am I supposed to excercise if I have got a hernia, wont excercise make it worse?
Being told that there is something wrong with me is my nightmare come true, I am always seeking reassurance that verything is ok so now I am in a new situation and really don't know what to do with myself

Hi Angie

I feel exactly the same! And I have just been diagnosed with a hiatus hernia too! I saw a specialist (mine was diagnosed after an endoscopy) but the only treatments are antacids and some other tablets that stop the acid building up which creates the bloated feeling.

I have been taking medication for about two weeks and occasionally it has gone off but still keeps coming back and the doc said I might need to carry on for another month.

Funny thing is I was relieved it was only a hiatus hernia because really it's nothing, treatable, and so common (loads have it but don't know).

Trouble is stress makes it worse, so its tough for us anxious types to get it to settle down.

It's just glorified indigestions - when you relax and get your eating habits regular it should improve loads.

Good luck hun - don't panic - it's nothing terrible!

hi

just thought id add a short reply, for reassurance!
i get bad ibs which is triggered by anxiety, which triggers ibs!

all your symptoms are the same as mine, my doctor has given me colofac.. which i take 20 mins before meals and it just helps to relax your bowel so you dont get those feelings, cramps or diarrhoea/constipation as much.

i get bad patches for a few weeks then it settles again. try not to stress too much about it, as you will just make yourself worse. its the overactivity of you nerves and muscles in your gut which u get from being stressed, which causes ibs.

this is a link to the page my doctor printed out for me, has some good tips and explains alot about how it happens.
http://www.patient.co.uk/showdoc/23068776/

hope you feel better soon.

ps... cauliflower - not a good veggie for ibs! if your feeling rough i stick to what i call yellow food! bread, potatoes, rice, chicken, eggs... x

Thank you so much for your advice and reassurance!

My symptons are up and down at the moment, the worst thing now is the acid in my throat, burns really bad and makes me feel so sick too!

Trying to keep a little calmer about it, as I do notice that things flare up when I get really uptight!

Got something else to worry about now anyway - Fell over and cut my head open yesterday (just above my eye), tripped on a raised paving slab and there happened to be a lamp post in my way! and needed to have a few stitches, also where I fell I must have tried to break the fall with my hands and can barely move my thumbs! Oh my god, its all happening at the mo, so now have bad headaches and of course all the nasty thoughts are starting to flood in. What a ninny!
