hi im rania. ive been followed up by a psychotherapist since 3 months. i had a phsycologist before for 2 weeks, the difference to me was that the psycologist ssemed to want to go into my past wheras the cbt therapist concentrated on now my problem at this present time, how to change my way of thinking and my way of behaving in the near future to be able to manage this newly aquired panic problem. it worked very well for me, she is specialised in panic disorder. wheras a psycologist isnt nessesarily specialised in panic disorders. hope you feel better soon

Hi Rian

There are a whole host of different therapists out there who use different techniques and different schools of thought.

The type of therapy likely to be most helpful is something which is solution focused, ie CBT (http://www.nomorepanic.co.uk/default.asp?t=cms&c=therapy).

Some forms of counselling just involve talking about the problem without giving any help with how to change and practical problem solving.

I have to say Karen, that nobody can really say which therapy is likely to be the most helpful. It depends on the individual doesn't it?
