View Full Version : So my blood tests are back, and...
Well, my doctor says I have an overactive thyroid which is the cause of most, if not all, of my symptoms - including my increased anxiety despite being on fluoxetine for nearly a year. He gave me some beta-blockers to slow down my heart rate and I will have a hospital appointment with a specialist within the next two weeks. Thank goodness I convinced him to have my blood tested otherwise this would go on unnoticed. Dang.
I'm slightly relieved that there's an actual problem, but it's going to be a few months before I'm completely back on my feet. I'm pretty discouraged I must say. Has anybody else had a problem with an overactive thyroid or something similar?
And now I'm obsessing about even more!

Hi!
I have had a overactive thyroid. It's now underactive though.. Anxiety is my worst symptom for both over & under. Have you been feeling unwell for a long time?

hi my mom has suffered this for years, she now has medication and its under control
Thank you guys!
My symptoms started about a month a go (at least what I noticed).
Are we all similar? I have bad shaking, extremely weak and stiff joints, fast heart rate and I am exhausted no matter how much sleep/rest I get. It's awful - I can't do anything at the moment apart from sit on the couch without getting flustered!
Hopefully now they know the cause they can give you the right treatment and make you better. :flowers:
I hope so! The doctor sure scared me though - talking about heart attacks, throat surgery and even brain surgery! Though I did sort of ask him... probably a bad idea. Lol :)
My friend had an overactive thyroid and she just needed a quick operation to remove a lump or something from her throat. It was a minor procedure and it solved all her problems. I thought it could sometimes be controlled with drugs anyway?
That doesn't sound too bad. I think it can be controlled with drugs too. I'll take whatever's fastest and has less side-effects (that puts brain surgery out, lol).
Oh my. And now I have some kind of bug too - sore throat, chesty cough. Also just vomited. What fun this is!

see I am convinced I have an overactive thyroid myself! I have a panic/anxiety disorder that came out of no where a month or so ago! I have no energy, feel lethargic all the time, joints hurt or are stiff just want to sit down...and ive lost weight quite quickly..and I have also now gone down with a flu-cold thats had me bed ridden for the last day or so...thing is I know when I go to the docs Fri and say this to her she is going to put it all down to my new friend Anxiety and that im constantly looking for an illness to have! how can I convince her to the do the tests and take me seriously I dont want to be ill I just want answers as to why I feel the way I do..
