Hi guys. Please help, i have a colonoscopy in a couple of weeks time and im panick stricken about the IV sedation bit. I dont think i can have that as i wont cope well with it. Has anyone gone without any medication for a colonoscopy or just had gas and air? Please can you tell me if it was ok?
Im a real worrier anyways so any feedback to try and calm me down would be much appreciated.
Many thanks for your help

You don't have to have sedation - it is just more painful that is all.

I didn't have gas and air either!

I had a sigmoidoscopy which is a shorter procedure but I did have gas and air, which did help.

I have ulcerative colitis and have had two colonoscopys.

The first I was sedated and fine, didn't really remember most of it. Don't worry about the needle at all. The second I had with no relief at all which wasn't great to be honest. Was uncomfortable and felt v anxious. Given the choice for my next one I would 100% take the sedation x
