i developed severe depression and severe social anxiety when my grandpa passed away but this was when i was 8. I hear that your self esteem is programmed into you until about the age of 10. Last year i was forced to work in a charity shop by jobcentre and it has helped with the social phobia side of things. But i am seriously wondering whether it is possible for me to ever like myself and how you can begin to after 12 years negative thinking due to a phobia.

Hi Wane,

Could you ask your dr about having some CBT?

Hi Wayne,

It takes a lot of effort and changing your thinking about things. I had a difficult childhood and it took me a long time to realise I am a good person. As time has gone on the friends I have made have helped me realise that. Keep forcing yourself to get out there and mix with people the majority of people are good people and nothing to be scared of, they are all going through their own issues anyway.

CBT would definately give you some tools to combat your negative thinking, have a chat with your GP :)
