Worried about throat cancer

I am a long time sufferer of HA and a long time smoker. I have been having a very stuffy head, ear pain and neck pain on my left side. The pain in the ear and is not constant but around more times than not and has been around for several weeks. I feel like my throat is closing but I am not coughing but I do feel like food gets stuck sometimes. The pain is so bad some times it radiates to my shoulder. I am very concerned and could use some rational replies. Sorry for sounding so pitiful but I am scared and my wife is tired of my worries and I can't afford a trip to the doctor. this sounds like a viral infection, there a lot of these around at the minute and I have a few friends suffering with similar symptoms, pain in the throat, glands, neck and head. Please try not to worry too much, I know it's hard but it does sound viral and these clear on their own but do take some time and leave you feeling quite tired also.
