I have PVC's/ectopic beats that sometimes crop up, prevent me from sleeping, and generally make me very anxious. For whatever reason about 6 months ago I started eating cheap bran cereal for the fiber. Magically the PVC's stopped.

Each time I stop eating the bran cereal, the PVC's return. This pattern has repeated itself about 4 times. I will stop eating the bran cereal, about a week later the PVC's will be back full force. Then I will eat the cereal, and PVC's will be diminished, and the next day - GONE! Symptom free.

It just happened again, and it has gotten to the point where I am afraid to run out of bran cereal. This is gerenic bran cereal that is spayed with all kinds of chemicals. I think it has something to do with a vitamin there I'm probably deficient in -- thinking magnesium or iron, as I'm a vegetarian and a child-bearing woman.

Here's the nutrition facts (3/4 cup cereal with milk, I probably eat twice this much for a serving):
Vitamin A 20%
Vitamin C 100%
Calcium 15%
Iron 100%
Vitamin D 25%
Vitamin E 100%
Thiamin 100%
Riboflavin 110%
Niacin 100%
Vitamin B6 100%
Folate 100%
Vitamin B12 100%
Patothenate 100%
Phosphorus 25%
Zinc 100%
Copper 8%

Does anyone have any idea which one of these minerals could be helping my PVC's? When I eat this cereal the change is DRAMATIC -- from horrible PVC's to none, and it happens in a day or two. That seems to fast for iron, I'm thinking magnesium?

I read in this thread http://www.nomorepanic.co.uk/showthread.php?t=84941 that magnesium can really help ectopics.

I might just have to run out and get some bran cereal after reading this though lol! Anythings worth a try right? :) x

Bet its the magnesium content and you are deficient. Dr told me that they check magnesium levels in heart beat disorders as a deficiency can cause fast heart beat, missed beats (pvc's) etc etc. You can take magnesium supplement instead.

Potassium is also another one so eat your bananas:)

Yeah agreed magnesium deficiency can cause palps. I was checked via a blood test for magnesium deficiency and came back fine so my ectopic beats continued, but apparently blood tests are not ideal for checking magnesium deficiency - if you are borderline it won't show up on the test but may still cause problems so I'm going to give this a go :-) Thanks for the heads up

If you take a magnesium supplement make sure its one you can actually absorb. Most of the ones sold in supermarkets cannot be absorbed at all.
