hi, i smoke anywhere from 20-40 cigs a day. im 31 with 4 kids and so ashamed of myself. i used to like smoking and occasionaly still do, but lately i find myself close to tears when smoking as the guilt i feel about mine and the kids health is breaking my heart and beginning to worry me sick.
it may sound pathetic but im terrified of quitting. i am convinced i havnt the will power to quit and cutting down only lasts a couple of days.

Sassy,

I have found that the main component in stopping any bad habit is really wanting to. If you don't do it for yourself do it for your children. If you are worried about their health at least smoke outside that way you won't feel guilty. I know you have the willpower to do this. My husband smoked for years and once he decided he really wanted to quit he did. There are gums and patches out there to aid you. I even think there are groups you can join for support. Whatever you need. Do not be ashamed of yourself, it is extremely addictive and everyone knows that. Just keep trying to quit, if that is what you want, and one day you will.

Read this, continue to read it, and you will stop. I did it 10 years ago and have never wanted a cigarette at all.

There is a lot of help available now on the NHS to help give up smoking.

You might also like to consider hypnotherapy which I know does have a high rate of success if you are motivated enough to really want to give up. No one is saying it is easy though.

Hi Sassy,

Paul is right. I am a very heavy smoker and have 2 kids. I tried to stop a lot of times but never that brave to stop permanently. I read the book, same author but different name. It has different versions. I quit 3 months with no difficulty till stg happens and I started again. This was the stupiest thing I've ever done because it was going very well. I will definitely gona read this again. Believe me it helps alot. And Paul, thanks.

I would strongly recommend the book I mentioned. It is by Allen Carr but is better than his shorter book. I have read both in the past. Go for the bigger book, the arguments are stronger and more well founded... Don't do patches or chewing gum etc... they are not the answer... not even partially.
