I was wondering how many of us actually feel reassured when our doctors tell us we're fine. I had a mole checked last week, doc said absolutely fine but i'm still worried about it. Are any of you so mistrusting of a doctors word?

I think it depends on how good your relationship with your doc is and how he comes across, with something like a mole yes if doc said its fine I would be pleased and know he was right, I have to go to the mole clinic and have one removed but it doesnt hurt or so I have been told.
We sometimes need to learn to have faith in them but it comes with time, remember that docs are covered by certain rules and they do not get it wrong and if they do it is very rarely.
Dont worry I am 100% sure he is correct and its nothing, moles are really easy to see iof they are bad.

Hi pacer, in a word YES!! One of the reasons I don't trust them is because of the cuts that are being made... I feel that gp's are less inclined than they used to be to send us for tests, or to specialists... I've had a swollen lymph node under my arm for two years, and a strange puckering in my right breast :( They totally ignore it, and say "Carry on taking your antidepressants, it's all in your mind" Last year I almost got barred from the practice, for trying to stand up for myself with a female doctor who was extremely patronising and treated me like a 5 year old... she has since been sacked! I think gp's are fine until we have "real problems" that they don't have the time or energy or knowledge to cope with :( Maybe you should get a second opinion? Good luck to you :)

I trust my Dr. They seen this stuff for years and know if there's something wrong just by looking at you I think.
I need to get a blood test or something just to make sure HAHA, been freaking me out latly I got an idea in my head and it wont go away.

I think in your case with a lump under my arm and breast puckering I would go to one of the free mamagram tests that are all over england and get it done, I would report the Docs in the surgery to the GMC as they are well wrong not to give you any tests for it ever, as for most docs I think they are really good but maybe its different in other parts of the country, changing your docs is an option as well.

Maybe it's a problem where I live? But let's just say it doesn't do wonder's for my confidence in them... I find them very dismissive :( I was told by a nurse at my surgery that I wasn't entitled to a mammogram yet (I'm 48)... I'll have to look into the free mammogram option, thanks :)

You tell the nurse you are so entitled to a mamagram whatever your age if there seems to be a problem, chances are it is nothing but they are not within there power to tell you its not, where abouts in country do you live I am in the midlands.

I'm in the South-East... Buckinghamshire... soon moving to Southampton though :) Are you 100% sure that I'm entitled to a mammogram? The nurse said I wouldn't be able to have one before I turn 52 :( That's what I mean about cuts!

I know that you are entitled to one, not on demand but if you have a lump under your arm and it is solid and you have breast puckering in the same breast on the same side and it is not to do with stretch marks because of weight loss then it needs to be checked if for no other reason than your mind needs putting at rest.
Have you seen another doc in your practise about it.

Thanks for your replies. I think i should trust her as i rarely go to the docs i usually see a private gp (dr google)
She seemed quite sure and said "what that little thing" I just like to worry i think. if i wasn't worrying i'd be really worried x

kibbutz, I've had several breast lumps and because of my age they scanned me rather than did a mammogram also they biopsied two of them. x

Yes I have seen another doctor, actually two other doctors... they did a blood test, said there was no sign of an infection anywhere, and sent me on my way :( If it wasn't so potentially tragic, I would probably be laughing about it all... I am always made to feel like I am "bothering" the doctor.. I went to one last year, and as soon as I walked in the room he said "Right, you've got one minute, what do you want?" He left shortly after! I do think that perhaps there are "things going on behind the scenes" that the patients don't know about.. as doctor's never seem to work at the practice for very long :(

That's awful. I'm really lucky with my GP. She's really patient and kind. Is there any chance youy can change?

Not really... the gp I have now is actually the best of the bunch! I've become my own doctor now... I read and educate myself where my health is concerned :)

I would go and change Drs as soon as possible and when you go to see them explain that your Docs are not dealing with your problems, have they examined you for the same thing.

They've all felt the swollen lymph node, and all passed it off as "nothing". I saw a herbalist a year or so ago, who said it really needs to be "checked out"! It's been constantly swollen now for two years... I don't see how it can be "nothing"... I get bored and frustrated every time I go to the surgery... so now I've stopped asking about it :( Hopefully when we move down to Southampton I may find a decent gp :)

Have you shown them the dimpling on your breast which for me would be the worry, the lumps under your arm can be very common and lots of women just before starting and into the mena whatsit get them but the dimpling would be my concern even though I know that can also be nothing.

No I haven't shown her yet.. I told the nurse who unfortunately wasn't allowed to do a breast exam :( I'll make an appointment in the next couple of weeks...
