Hi

I had the same fissure recurring twice for me and the experience lasted (in total) for a few years with varying degrees of discomfort. When the specialist examined it on a number of occasions he said that it was healing nicely but it still felt quite raw to me. He said that the area was quite sensitive at the end of the Anus due to the accumulation of nerves, IIRC, and so would be quite sensitive for a while beyond healing. I also had hemorrhoids in the same area. My fissure was in the 12 o clock position (to the rear of the bum hole). I used GTN cream for quite a while but the headaches were not too good when I used it.
I then flipped over to using Germaloids (sp) cream and found that to be more soothing and it also helped to lubricate the area.
As well as constipation being lose and stress can be factors to exacerbate the condition.
If you think about what goes on down there when you are having a BM it is not too surprising that it continues to split. Keeping the area clean for it to heal is also difficult.

Is it causing you much discomfort now..?

Yes its very painful at the moment, it seem to be healing really well and then split again.
I really dont want an op, maybe i just need to continue with the gtn cream, i have an appointment with the dr in a couple of weeks x

I found the use of a hot water bottle was very beneficial.

Best of luck to you and whilst these things are damn painful at time they do tend to heal and resolve themselves, albeit slowly.

I refused to even consider and op and I'm glad that I did.

You will be fine :)

Saw gp today, fissure is abit shallower but has not healed.
Have been using gtn cream for 6 weeks.
Gp thinks i might need an operation but i want to continue with the gtn.
Will use for another 4 weeks and go back.
Really scared of an op, has anyone had this x

My boyfriend had one..he had to apply cream to it twice a day...used it for I believe 3 months? He recently went to get it checked and the doctor said it has healed completely. My advice keep using the cream and take stool softener pills..once a day.

Which means that it seems to be healing :)

Good news for sure..!!

As I noted these things can take there time and you are doing really well and I'm sure that given time it will heal fine for you. Just keep your bm's soft (I used a product called lactulose) and keep things lubricated down there to ease the movement and do not strain :)

Best wishes
