Hi Everybody,

Recently have been diagnosed with depression/anxiety (stubbornly refusing to admit to such things for years!!). It has affected me all of my adult life and i have effectively hidden it from friends and family.

I have excercised vigorously, running, yoga, kettlebells. Quit smoking, cut down on drinking (used to be a weekend binge drinker), i eat correctly,and still i cannot shake it.

Have been prescribed 20mg of Citalopram daily (feeling nauseous,weak,no real affect on mood yet). Awaiting CBT at the moment.

Psychopoets' excellent Citalopram guide led me here and has given me an insight into what to expect, also having read other peoples posts i get the feeling that this is a positive place to be with like minded/kindred spirits.

Anyway,

Thanks for listening,

Send Word,

Peter

:welcome:to NMP Peter. Glad that you have found us. Citalopram worked for me and lifted my mood significantly after about 2 weeks. I am not on meds at present but took 10mg for about 6 months. Thoughts become feelings very quickly with this illness as our nerves are so sensitised. It is fear which keeps this cycle going. There is a brilliant book by Dr Claire Weekes;SELF HELP FOR YOUR NERVES published by Thorsens ISBN 0-7225-3155-9.This is available from the NMP shop. Dr Weekes was a physician and scientist. She was a fellow sufferer (nominated for the nobel prize for medicine) and really understood this illness. She took the mystery out of it, and devised a simple programme for recovery. I can't recommend this enough.( It is a bit old fashioned, but still so relevant).

Here is a link to her site;

This will get better. Vx
