any other Trycillic drugs other than Clomipramine?

Hi Everyone

i have been on 100 - 125mg of Clomipramine for about 3 months now

have had loads of side effects, weight gain, im always tired and falling asleep, yawning, dry mouth, severe constipation, memory loss, hot flushes

i need to find some other trycillic drug for OCD, i have tried a lot of SSRI drugs already but my Psychiatrist keeps harping on about Tricyllic drugs

any names of any others i can try? i`d like to then research these other drugs

The Maximum dose of Clomipramine is 150mg daily in divided dose, used for OCD.

Clomipramine's molecular structure resembles Imipramine, except there is a Chlorine atom , thus, it's called Clomipramine. ( Chlor-imipramine)

As for OCD, medically, this is the only TCA used for it.

I can't find other TCA's used for OCD except Clomipramine.

Hello Anxiety, search for 'tricyclic' on Wikipedia and you'll find a full list. Clomip is the one most used for ocd tho I think and I believe the SEs tend to be similar. Certainly speak to your doc about options tho. If Clomip is actually helping your ocd, is it poss you might be able to try a smaller dose? I was on it for depression and panic rather than ocd but never made it higher than 45mg a day, even though the highest dose is actually 225mg or even 250mg. Something to think about maybe? Xx

Hi,

TCA or tricyclic antidepressants are a very good medication but unfortunately do have a high amount of side effects. Other medication in this group include Efexor (venlafaxine), anafranil (clomipramine), amitriptyline, dosulepin, loferpaime and so on. You should discuss with your specialist about your medication though and raise any concerns about it to them.

Venlafaxine isn't a tricyclic - it's an SNRI :doh: but it appears it can be used in OCD, so it might me something else worth mentioning if you haven't already tried it Anxiety xx

Hi,
I think different countries have a different recommended maximum dose of Clomipramine.
Here in Australia, when used for OCD, the max dose, according to the medical reference book is 150mg.

But, I got a friend here, suffering from OCD, and she is now taking 12 of the 25mg small little round tablets, prescribed of her psychiatrist. ( making a total of 300mg)

Well, the best advice to get is from your healthcare professional, who knows your condition better.
