Today I was laying on my right side propped up and using my right arm to type a long email to a froend. When i stopped writing the muscle on my right ribcage felt as though it was really tight and almost pulling. My right arm was also aching. It kind of scared me as this is a very stange sensation . I was wondering if maybe the way I was propped and my right side being curved in an maybe from being in a weird postion could be the problem? I tried to exercise it out but it still feels tightly strung across my ribs although to the touch its pretty loose. Anyone else get this? Maybe from typing in the wrong position?

Is there a disease that causes muscles to tighten up and not relax?

I get a sort of wave of tightness around my lower ribs at the front and sides and sometimes going round to the back. It's a bit like a mild cramp.

Found where this could be a symptom of MS or Lyme disease or Ranauyds disease

Hi

I have had this feeling in the same place for a while now. Be reassured that it is not MS or Lymes. Girdle hug is a symptom of MS but MS would present itself in more extreme ways than what you are describing.

I was diagnosed with Fibromyalgia and was told this is what has caused the tightness in my upper abdomen/lower ribcage (can't figure out where it is). Fibromyalgia isn't life threatening. But I have found that gentle exercise helps to strengthen the muscle and ease the symptoms. What happens is, the muscle becomes fatigued, knots and then shortens. It doesn't cause any long term muscle damage the muscle is still healthy.

I was given fluoxetine which more or less instantly made the tightness disappear.

Look up fibromyalgia and see if any of the other symptoms match too. I would mention it to your GP and ask to be referred for physio.

Hope this helps.
