Hi there,

I was wondering if anyone has had a painless mouth ulcer and if so, what was the diagnosis??!

I noticed I had a smooth little bump in my right cheek, just between my upper and lower back teeth, a couple of weeks ago. It is too high to have bitten myself, so I went to my GP and she said it was just a mouth ulcer and that it will go away. Well, two weeks later, the bump it's still there, but now there is a little whole crater-like in it. And it's getting bigger. I also developed a sore throat :(

I made the stupid mistake to google it and every single page says "mouth cancer" and I am worrying to death!! :’( :’(

I don’t smoke or drink and I am 31 years old. Does anyone know if there could be a different diagnosis other than mouth cancer for a painless mouth ulcer?

Thanks a lot in advance

Ok, I have just come back from the oral surgeon; he specialises in oral cancer and has told me not to worry as it does not look like cancer, and suggested to come back in a week or two if it does not go away. I am having a biopsy done on Monday or Tuesday, just for my own peace of mind. But he reassured me that the chances of it coming back with a worrying result are very, very rare.

I have also asked him whether a painless mouth ulcer always means oral cancer and he said NO. I know it was silly and stupid of me to google it, but I did, and when I could not find an answer, I panicked. I just hope this helps anybody else looking for a similar answer. The best is to go to the doctor though. The Internet can never give an accurate diagnosis.
