Hi. I've just been to the doctor after a sore came up on my lower back and have been sent for tests (which could take a while to come through). The doc said that although it doesn't look like melanoma (or they'd get me in quickly), it also doesn't look good.

Quite likely it's a relatively benign skin cancer (basal or squamous cell carcinoma).

I've had one of these before (basal cell) and, because it took so long (8 months!) to have it removed, it was 5 months of misery; it started weeping and then bleeding, and finally got infected twice and I had to have two courses of antibiotics (your whole body gets ill under those circumstances, not just the sore place). Then after the op it was 2 months of daily bandage changes. Still, I guess I'm glad we still have the NHS.

Feeling stressed atm. Thanks for reading this,

Graham .

P.S. I should say that my Dad DID have melanoma, and unfortunately he didn't survive it (the second time it came back).
