View Full Version : Panic/anxiety symptoms when exercising

Hello all,

I am new to the forum, but certainly not new to panic disorder - was first diagnosed 10 years ago but has not affected me until recently.

I will put my full story in the intro thread section but I did want to ask a question about exercise....

My big problem/trigger is feeling like I can't swallow and that my neck/throat is tightening up. I have noticed recently that this is coming on hugely when I exercise - and mainly during any recovery period ie between sets when lifting weights, or after a sharp burst when doing intervals on my bike.

It has now stopped me from doing any real exercise and I was just wondering if anybody else suffers from similar symptoms?

I had the same thing at the gym. I would do rounds on the punch bag and when i stopped in between i started to have panic attack symptoms because my heart was beating so quick and i felt light-headed.. which are just normal feelings when you are working hard at the gym. It was, and is, really annoying but i still go to the gym.
