My question is does any one get anxious just checking there blood pressure and what do you do to try and not get anxious checking it. When I am at the doctor my blood pressure goes up...he has wanted me to monitor it at home here and there but when I just think about it it makes me anxious...sometimes I am even fine just up until I put the cuff on my arm and then my pulse rate goes into the 100's...blood pressure goes to 140/77. I know that this is just borderline but if this happens everytime I get anxious then it could be bad. Should I just try breathing exercises and other relaxation techniques before taking my BP? Your comments would be appreciated...

Hi.

Firstly try not to worry. I do get anxious when I have had my blood pressure taken, one of the things is when the cuff goes very tight, that made my pulse rate shoot right up!

You're probably just anxious before you have it taken before because you may be worried what the reading is going to be. Have you told your doctor about how you feel?

Yes perhaps the breathing exercises and relaxation techniques would be a good idea before, you should try that. It may help you. Hope this helps.

I check my own and if I get a reading I don't like Ii check it again.
Its always higher the second time due to worrying about the first one

Don't believe everything you think.

OMG - don't even get me started on what mine does at the doctors!!!!

I check mine every few months at home now with the same type of machine they use at the surgery - sometimes I am nervous at doing it but after I have done it once I calm down.

"Supposing it didn't," said Pooh after careful thought.
