Worried about becoming a counsellor
I have type 1 diabetes and its not that greatly controlled I am worried about being a counsellor and having to sit for long periods of time without checking my blood sugar.
I am really worried that my clients will be thinking im rude if i check my blood sugars.
Also my not being able to check my blood sugars gives me great anxiety over my health so this makes counselling or sitting in a room difficult with a person.
i have tried to look up any information but cant seem to find any diabetics who are working as counsellors.
Any ideas would be appreciated.
Re: Worried about becoming a counsellor
How often do you check your blood sugar now?
Surely as a counsellor you get breaks between clients, or even tea or lunch breaks. If you’re the one controlling a session you can make an excuse to leave the room for a few moments. People would understand.
Is there a way you could better manage your diabetes?
Of course there are counsellors with diabetes.
