I know but new ones have arisen about my mum now which I'm convinced of and if she can have bowel cancer then that raises my risk, if I don't have it already
I've applied for therapy and in the mean time I'm not sure what I can do because I'll still worry even if I'm on or off the thread

She only goes to the doctor when she's really ill, like last year she did have the flu and she went then but otherwise (with moderate symptoms such as a cough or diarrhea), and that's a very frustrating otherwise, she doesn't care
Obviously it doesn't have to be colon cancer, it could be anything especially as the diarrhea started recently I think and the blood was probably just a one off, it's just because she's over 50 and your risk increases when you reach that age. Sorry didn't mean to scare you (EDIT: well you knew that anyway, you just think more rationally than me) as you're the same age as her, it's just my diseased HA mind
I know in two years she'll still be here and I'll hopefully still be here and I'll look back on this and think "Ha, well that never happened" but I don't have a time machine unfortunately:huh:

I can suggest what you can do..Take responsibility for your HA rather than make excuses for it and say that you can't help having the "new" fears because that's the nature of HA etcetc. You have to make a start on challenging your HA at some stage rather than 100 pages on from now.

And I am, I've applied for therapy with Insight Healthcare but they haven't been back in contact yet.
Re: Have I got rectal cancer?
Give them time. You've set the ball in motion. You may have to wait a while for an assessment but most people do. Don't try to control your Mum or to project your own fears onto her-she won't thank you for it.
Re: Have I got rectal cancer?
Yeah I hope they get in contact soon because if therapy is the only form of help I can get, if I can't have a sigmoidoscopy or if she obviously can't have tests, I'll take it
Re: Have I got rectal cancer?
I did ask my mum to promise me that if she did have diarrhoea for over 6 weeks then she'd see a doctor about it, which she agreed to. Even though I don't believe her, I need to try and trust that she can take care of herself. But then beyond her being ill and how horrible that would be, I'd then have to think about if I could've inherited it from her or if I'd get it in the future
Re: Have I got rectal cancer?
Of course she can take care of herself. Don't use her as a means of conjuring up sinister health scenarios fro you.
Re: Have I got rectal cancer?
Please be careful, Toby?
I've been terrified for the health of people I love, too, but when you try to control the fear by controlling your loved ones, it can be a form of abuse.
Life is fundamentally uncertain. You need to practice acceptance of this rather than trying to find ways of creating the illusion of certainty where none exists.

I hope she can:) I just feel somewhat responsible because I feel like I would know how to spot the warning signs of a disease so of course I would be concerned if she had bowel cancer symptoms after I've spent nearly a year thinking I had it too
