Carys do you want to pm me? Hypocrite? Drop me a pm and we can keep this off the board
I said 'hypocrisy to some comments' from 'some people', I did not direct at any one person Bruce as there are many here who have experienced HA. I said 'hypocrisy' and not 'hypocrite' - hypocrisy being having different rules for different people/situations. I won't add any further to this discussion, I've made my point, as have others and its down to admin ultimately to decide what they think is best.
Thanks for the english lesson but you actually said 'hypocricy' whatever that means. B-
Oh dear, tragic, I accidentally typed one wrong letter in my original comment.
OK, if it makes you feel better Bruce, I'll change hypocrisy to 'a lack of empathy/understanding' when the very same thing has been experienced oneself.
I see your point P, but surely this could apply to nearly every HA poster on this board ? Well, not just HA, every single mental health problem posted about here - forums provide an 'audience', thats what they do.Quote:
He has an audience here-what motivation does he have to lose a source of contact which he chooses not to have in his everyday life?
While I can totally understand people's frustrations with the cyclical and pretty self-destructive nature of Toby's posting, it's fairly clear that it's the product of severe and genuine health anxiety. He is as we all could be when our HA is at its most raw and unchecked and I totally get the frustration felt when he fails to take the steps advised to keep it at least more in-check. He seems almost as if a spectre of how aggressive that spiral can get and it's a stressful and frustrating, even scary thing to behold.
But I definitely don't think the thread should be closed, lest it set a precedent of how/when people can post about things. Also, what's to stop a new one from being started? At least this one, with its ridiculous views and page numbers, provides a bit of a forewarning for those unwilling to subject themselves to the long and, quite possibly, pointless haul.
I think simply that those who disagree with perpetuating it should maybe take a step back and those still willing to engage should feel at liberty to do so. Maybe with more focused interaction, Toby can find some direction? Maybe the drop-off in contributors might impress upon him the seriousness with which he should take the advice of those still willing to try to help him?
It's obvious a lot of people have really tried to help and his behaviour has definitely been defeatist and maddening. And hey, maybe losing this record of self-destructive behaviour might actually do enough to shake him free of it? I'm just a bit uneasy with the idea of moderating one's expression of an issue we all know to be endlessly complex when, in lieu of doing that, those who see no point in engaging it could simply ignore it.
Hmmmm, okay, I get it. I have a different perspective, but I see your point. I think its a judgement we just shouldn't make as members to close threads, even Phil's LOLOL
Great post Dommy !!!!!
Dommy that is genuinely the best and clearest post i`ve seen in a long time. It does wind me up of course because I see a young, bright bloke in Toby making precisely the same mistakes many others have, myself included. I totally get the HA angle, but what started to clear the clouds for me was really steady application of the various tools and techniques that recovered people and health professionals had given me. Standing still when I wanted to run off, sitting quietly waiting for palpitations to pass, and letting those scary but essential lessons sink in
anyway, freedom of speech slightly trumps me getting a bit cranky, I just hope something starts to work soon for Toby.
