Re: sertraline...splitting dose...
I'm exactly the same. After a really bad reaction to 1 tablet of Citalopram last year and an unsuccessful 8 months on Mitrazapine my GP has asked me to try Sertraline.Have been looking at the packet for 2 weeks now. I took a quarter of a pill (as near as I could) this morning reasoning on if it's going to be bad it wont be as bad as whole pill. It's 5 hours later now and my head feels like an elephant is sitting on it with pressure and I'm nauseous so am dithering whether to just stop at that or persist for a few days on 1/4....
Let me know what you decide to do and what your side effects are please???
Re: sertraline...splitting dose...
hiya...wow your braver than me...i havent taken any...yea i think nausea is one of the more common side effects, not that that helps you right now...now you have taken one or quarter of one maybe you should stick at it for a few days..see if the symptoms wear off...i think il try a 1/4 of one as im so worried of taking even half...did you take with food?? iv heard some people say its better to take not long after food if its making you feel sicky...
Re: sertraline...splitting dose...
Yes, am taking with my breakfast. I slept well last night and decided to take another 1/4 this morning. For the first 3-4 hours I've felt a little light headed and stomach hurting a bit but not too scary. Yes think I will do this for a few days and then go mad a whole half! if nothing worse happens.. Please let me know how you get on.
I really hate the idea of taking pills that have such side effects - it seems so wrong somehow.
Re: sertraline...splitting dose...
Eden
1/4 of each tablet is not likely to cause intolerable side effects. Maybe the effects of the first dose were exaggerated by anxiety. It sounds like the second one was not as bad.
I think you have done well to stick with it.
Citalopram absorption and side effects are not usually affected by taking it with/without food, so I'd just take it at a time which seems best for you. Whatever gives you the least nausea may be best.
I do hope that you find the next few 1/4 doses get better and better, so that you can try 1/2 a tablet.
You have not mentioned what dose each whole tablet is. Is it 10, 20 or 30mg?
All the best
Jono
Re: sertraline...splitting dose...
hi eden..well done i hope you carry on without any other horrible side effects...
jono we are on about taking sertraline...50mg and splitting it into 4 altho i cant say for certain thats what eden was given???i take it it was 50mg???
let me know how the next few days go...:) x
Re: sertraline...splitting dose...
Yes Sertraline 50mg.
One of the problems I had with the Citalopram was that I'm a migraine sufferer and one pill induced a MASSIVE one that lasted days. My GP says on SSRI drugs I can't use my usual migraine remedy (Triptan) because of Serotonin Syndrome - hence needing to be very cautious with this drug. Yesterday it did induce a massive pressure headache but today not so lets see how we go.
Beautifulfreak - have you started????
Re: sertraline...splitting dose...
no i havent started...think i may take the diazepam for a day before so i feel more relaxed about taking it.....
Re: sertraline...splitting dose...
Good to read this thread, I've just started sertraline having failed to take citalopram, GP said to start on half of 50 mg but like you I was scared of even that and cut it into 4, eg6.25 mgs. I still feel hideous! Nausea, in fact just vomited so guess there's very little left, stomach is painful and guts gurgling. And lets not mention the agitation and anxiety which is why I'm here in the first place!!
Re: sertraline...splitting dose...
Hi tootie, Im sorry to hear that its making you feel like that,i still havent taken any,i keep going to but i cant,I have such a phobia over taking any sort of medication..I know il cause myself to have a panic attack..
