Can anybody recommend a wash basket?
I have ocd about dirty washing can anyone recommend a good basket I can keep if I have a family or pet?
Possibly one I can screw to the wall or a maybe one below with a pad lock?
https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/aw/d/B07...en+laundry+bin
Is there any way to lock the other one to keep me free of any worry?

Who's going to tamper with your dirty underwear?

If I had a family they might be in at everything

Re: Can anybody recommend a wash basket?
I see. You think someone could touch dirty clothes then infect rest of washing/house, etc?
You'd need to add bracket with padlock yourself I think. "Locking hinge" just keeps lid securely open. Looks sturdy though.

Yes and yep maybe like a shed hasp or something then to lock it?

Re: Can anybody recommend a wash basket?
You can buy a padlock and hasp/staple: https://www.screwfix.com/p/hasp-staple-100mm/11422
MDF is also quite dense so you can apply screws unlike chipboard :lac:

Re: Can anybody recommend a wash basket?
Is this a practical solution or are you adding to your fears here? What if they contaminate the lid on top? When you put dirty undies in do you then wash the outside lid or do you place dirties in wearing gloves that are not used to close it?
Surely only celebrities, although pervs do exist, have to worry about knicker stealers? :winks:

It’s wet dirty towels that cause me anxiety I keep some of the other dirty washing on the floor. The towels get wet as I have to come in and out shower.
I have lots of worries if it gets moved maybe I need to screw the basket to the wall? Plus it’s contents need not be removed I don’t even let my partner do the dirty washing.
Yes it may not happen but if it was touched and it got anywhere near things I’d bin household furniture. So I have to figure out a solution
-
Re: Can anybody recommend a wash basket?
You could always put dirty laundry straight into the washing machine.
I think I agree with Terry on this one.
It would be more beneficial to tackle your fears
-
Re: Can anybody recommend a wash basket?
If this in the anticipation of having a family or having pets I do think that you will need to tackle the fears at source.
Babies and pets will spread much worse round your home, and that could be hard for you to deal with in your present state of mind.

Re: Can anybody recommend a wash basket?
I don't believe what I am reading here and Lucinda and Terry are quite correct and I am going to say the same Phil really needs to seek help with his OCD issue and will add get bath mats to stand on and not towels :)

I trialed this but binned the bath mats because I was worried anybody touching them in the bath would spread the same “wash basket” germs.
I’ve not found a good solution that works for me yet.
In hotels I worry where these wet towels go? Maybe they don’t wash there hands when replacing towels?

The window fitter touched my wash basket when fitting my windows so since then I’ve had to wash my hands every time I touch the windows.

Re: Can anybody recommend a wash basket?
Hotels have to adhere to health & safety standards. If they don't and get picked up on it then they will be forced to change or be pursued via the law. But that doesn't mean everything is perfect either, you have little choice but to trust people as there is only so much you can check in a room when you stay.
What your OCD is telling you is a solution, isn't one. It's a safety behaviour.

Re: Can anybody recommend a wash basket?
The cycle continues phil I am afraid you can put hundreds of things in place to safe guard you but do you really want the hassle that goes with it?? I respectfully suggest you tackle your OCD problem! You wont start your recovery till you do Cheers

Phil - How will you manage to have a relationship with anyone if your OCD is so out of control? Intimacy and sex requires sharing bodily fluids (including harmless "germs"), so I don't understand how you'll get around this. You can't control and monitor everything your partner touches.
You can try to minimise contamination to help you feel more comfortable but you can never control it absolutely. Therein lies the problem.

Re: Can anybody recommend a wash basket?
That's a demonstration of irrationality. We witness on the HA board daily where rare issues scare people who aren't scared by the higher numbers of people killed in accidents.
It's a strange beast how some things stick and others don't. For some, there may be reasons you can point to though.

Re: Can anybody recommend a wash basket?
I tried bath mats before however I put them in the bath I have a new solution:
Put the bath mats down rather than towels but put them in a plastic box with lid after shower under the sink out of harms way.
This way I can dispose of my old wash basket buy a new one and I have less anxiety with general dirty washing I put dirty washing on my bedroom floor.
I’m not sure this will work but it would mean it’s only a “dirty mat” which can be put away. Obviously when I come in and out shower I wash my hands but the towels could still get at this way a bit.
However I could put used towels in bathroom then washing machine this may reduce my anxiety and would stop soaking wet towels as I would instead stand on a bath mat. I have to check how wet the floor gets before I can decide what to do. But I could put this box next to the dirty cloths for washing the toilet under the sink.
I may start worrying about other stuff under the sink being contaminated though.

Re: Can anybody recommend a wash basket?
It may be a temp solution phil, but isn't it better to get help for your OCD too??

The doctor said therapy isn’t suitable for me and refused it. Tried private counselling but this wasn’t any help for ocd as it was just talking

"Just talking"? That's what talking therapy is, Phil
So doc says there is no treatment for you? That's just writing you off like a useless article :lac:
I think you should find another doctor.

I certainly wouldn't give up on this wonder what other members think what could work Good luck:) Cheers

Yes basically I had a breakdown 2 years ago so required some tablets for it as it was a bipolar episode they promised some counselling but later said I wasn’t entitled to any that was the Psychiatrist too.
In the end private the was costing too much and not helping. I went for a free one which was again talk theropy but she just listened never spoke much so I quit that. Seems to be not much in my area I’m in Scotland.
Some of them give me print outs but more for general anxiety and panic. To be honest ocd cleaners on channel 4 offers more help than I’ve had from the doctor.

And yes I paid for a counsellor one time and she said to me she couldn’t help or I wouldn’t benefit from her help

I had to change doctors when I moved house.
Only got two doctors surgery’s near by. I only go for check ups with the Psychiatrist since I had the breakdown.

So is the psychiatrist saying there is no treatment for you?
-
Re: Can anybody recommend a wash basket?
Sadly this reflects my experience of mental health care in Scotland.
You see a psychiatrist once every 3 months if you are lucky and it is mainly for a meds review, not a real session at all.
I too have had a psychiatrist tell me that they could/would not do anything for me.
I am not sure what the answer is and it all depends on how able you are to fight the system.
-
Re: Can anybody recommend a wash basket?
Exposure Response Prevention is the treatment of choice for OCD. It is a form of CBT. Are there any providers of that near you?

That's just it Elen - it angers me that patients are dumped like this, and if you can't or won't stand up for yourself and fight, you're left to rot.

ERP then more intensive CBT are the guidelines. With or without drug therapy.
The trouble is, that's not a UK wide guideline. Scotland has it's own NHS and it's woefully behind with mental health. The equivalent body to NICE don't even have anxiety guidelines but are supposed to adopt what they can from NICE publications passed to them for review...supposed to.
There's no IAPT framework in Scotland. This means they area on the old system where it can be 12 months to see anyone, as it was in England prior to IAPT, and they are going straight into the service set up to deal with more serious mental health cases like bipolar, schizophrenia, etc so you can guess who will be their priority.
On the flip side, they will get to see better trained people since our IAPT is a stripped down service where staff hold lesser qualifications and therapies are very limited.

That is exactly what happens, even when in the system it feels like they are ticking off a number of boxes, nothing more.
A friend's son in my area went to his CPN and GP telling them that he was suicidal. They did nothing to help and a week later his mother found him dead.

They maybe better qualified but I know that in 1 year of appointments every 3 months I saw 3 different people. Each appointment lasted 10 mins and was simply a meds review.

It's hopeless Phil, I was discharged simply because they had nothing to offer me

I think they need to see evidence of (severe) self-harm, a suicide attempt or signs of psychosis before they act - which is generally hospitalisation. There the patient will be monitored and receive care, but so-called care prevention, which is so much more important, is in many cases woefully lacking. Once a person has been neglected in the community, sadly, it's sometimes too late. I'm sorry about your friend's son - truly awful - and cases like this are increasing, especially since DWP started reassessing/cutting/stopping the benefits of people with mental health issues.

Re: Can anybody recommend a wash basket?
So Glad I asked the question earlier shocked yes, not surprised about the lack of MH services generally and especialy in Scotland. Phil is there any private ERP Providers in Scotland? I am having a operation soon I have a 18 week wait or go private to a Nufield hospital where I would pay for the operation, but wait I was also told if I went to a certain Nufield hospital out of my area (would have to travel) 1. I could be seen in a matter of a few weeks not months. 2. It would be free :) So what I am saying Phil is do some research on ERP Therapy in your area or even just outside the area you live. you deserve better help than what you have had in the past :) Cheers

Re: Can anybody recommend a wash basket?
I trialed the bath mat solution however the floor gets a bit more wet as the mat has small holes and near the sink I don’t have a mat so I may have to buy another. Avoids wet towels but it would mean floor may be more wet.

Why is the floor getting so wet, is it a wet room or shower over bath? is there no way you can dry your self either in the bath or shower area before you get out on to the floor? and again you need to look for ERP provider in your area or close too so you can make a good start on your recovery! Cheers

I have to clean my backside due to ocd issues.
It’s not a wet room I recently replaced the old vinyl floor with titles since I get it wet. I tried drying my feet but it still got wet when I was previously using towels. But the towels isn’t ideal for my ocd if I have a family Incase they take dirty washing from the basket and id throw stuff away.

Nope never considered that but I just like to be clean been reccommended wet wipes but never fancied using them. I get annoyed if my backside isn’t clean as I’ve had occasions where it’s not clean. I need to fix it when I urinate because I spend 15 mins sometimes cleaning to make sure it’s all dry. So yes my ocd is quite bad about toilet related germs

I’m using one hand soap a day and sometimes a whole toilet paper just to urinate.

That's must cost a fortune Phil not to mention that the hand soap maybe causing skin problems long term  Yeah would agree you OCD is bad Yeah I know you have tried to get help and todate not much available to you but keep looking Phil for ERP services in your area don't give up ever Good luck

Re: Can anybody recommend a wash basket?
I’m doing the bath mat solution rather than wet towels the flaw is my floor is getting more wet and I have to dry it with kitchen roll and it still stays wet for a few hours
