OMG...how interesting. The mind is such a powerful machine. I have added to my favourites so that I can read and digest again. Thanks for posting. Kitti :)
ur very welcome Kitty. Its amazing how different u feel after reading it!
I'm not an active contributor here any more but do read the posts from time to time, saw this and had to write.
Although there is a lot to take in, what Chris has written on his site was the information that allowed me to get myself better after 30 years of various anxiety related issues.
I will always have anxiety but that is normal, what isn't normal is when it dictates your life and stops you from doing what you want to do.
I can now travel around freely more or less and use the London Underground regularly without batting an eyelid. Occasionally I get the gentle flash of fear but it is quickly shrugged off..I am doing something that I have been unable to do for so long, the same applies to my other "places" and as agoraphobics and PA folks know, our list of unsafe places can be massive and all individual to ourselves.
Thing is, we can have all the tools to feel better but at the end of the day, we have to do it, nobody else can do it for us. Whatever method is chosen whether it is with meds or not, CBT or not it doesn't matter.
The only way forward is to gain knowledge and then use it to move on.
To come out from the safety blanket of anxiety is a scary thing. I'm not saying it is pleasureable being anxious but at least we know where we are, particularly if we have had it for years. It's what we feel every day from when we wake up to when we close our eyes and it is that familiarity that sometimes prevents us from taking the leap of faith forward.
It's bloody awful having it but could it be even scarier facing the big bad world without it, acknowledging that we are on our own with this? I think it can be.
We can get all the support in the world on NMP and it's invaluable. Friendships forged, people supporting each other through the hard times is what it is all about. But I think it is just as important to have a goal of where you want to be, something to aim towards.
It doesn't matter how long it takes as long as it is there.
Having been a member here since 2008, I know that sometimes people think that is is selfish for those who have recovered/are trying to recover to leave and no longer post. There are varying reasons for this, mine was because I knew I had to move away from anxiety and pa's and agora, I had to make the leap of faith on my own and being surrounded by anxieties can be triggering. It's not selfish, it's factual and a part of getting better.
I think it's safe to say that most get help and most offer help in return while they are part of this site. Nobody should feel that they have "deserted" NMP if they choose to move on and live life without the support that was once so necessary. It is a sign that NMP is the most successful site of it's kind.
I gathered tons of info while here and the "Nothing Works" info was the icing on the cake. It all made sense at last. I have used all this info to get me better and to keep me better.
Print it out or bookmark it. It's comprehensive but it makes sense. There is no race to follow what it advises, go at your own pace.
I still get anxieties but not of the same type, I come and go how I please, when I please and where I please. I look forward to new challenges.
There is light at the end of the tunnel, I came out the other side (took long enough!!) and I hope that you all can do the same.
Take care.

I didn't change anything in the end Pancho, I meant to add a few sections and have a little tidy up but ended up getting sidetracked and researching number theory and algebra instead!

Just to let you know, its back up, about to read it now :)
It is a great bit of writing, but I think its important to do what it say, i.e read it once, maybe twice, then move on. Dont use it as another crutch :)
Brilliant, just what I needed! Thank you chris x
