rash/spots on penis head.
It all started about a month ago when i noticed some red patches on the head of my penis when i got out of the bath. Straight away i thought it was thrush and took every thrush treatment known to man (at some expense). Canesten duo, apple cider vinegar, white vinegar, salt water etc, none of it seemed to work.
Anyway after a week i went to the GUM clinic where the doctor said it was "either thrush or an allergic reaction". Got a swab, urine sample and that thing where they stick that thing down your pee hole (results come back today everything is clear). So carried on with the thrush treatments for 2 weeks and although i very rarely have itching there was still red blotches there.
Gave up with the thrush treatment and decided to treat it as an allergy reaction, taking loratadine tablets and applying anthistan cream. The red blotches have gone down slightly but now i have about a half dozen of these small red spots on the head and under my foreskin is quite red.
I have made a doctors appointment but it's not until next Friday and i'm really sick with worry. I'm scared it's something serious. I know i'm not going to be able to eat or sleep properly and it's going to get worse the closer it gets to my doctors appointment.

Re: rash/spots on penis head.
It could just be due to different soap or wash powder, fabric conditioner or new underpants. It sounds like a bit of a rash from something like that. If it was more serious it would have gotten much worse quite quickly.

Re: rash/spots on penis head.
Worriedmale,
If it was it was thrush it wouldnt be a problem. Many people have it at some point in their lives in fact, many people are colonised by the fungus and it does no harm. It is not life threatening. If it isn't thrush then it probably will be an allergic reaction but again, nothing to worry about.
You've done the best thing and got in touch with the doctors - there's nothing else you can do now except wait for the appointment. Please don't worry, I'm sure the doctors will manage to help you out.

Re: rash/spots on penis head.
Is psoriasis a possibility? I have read you can get it there and i suffer from psoriatic arthritis.
-
Re: rash/spots on penis head.
Hi, tbh I think you should probably stop putting different ointments on it, you may only aggravate the problem? It doesn't sound like anything serious though... you'll be fine

Thank you i find reading things like that very reassuring.

Re: rash/spots on penis head.
It could also be irritation through looking at it all the time. The glans is very sensitive hence why it's protected by the foreskin!

You may laugh at this but i applied apple cider vinegar and white vinegar to it on numerous occasions and as you can imagine it stung quite a lot.

Re: rash/spots on penis head.
No doubt the vinegar etc will have irritated the skin. It may be that you initially had thrush, this then went away due to the creams, and that the current redness is caused by your attempts to clear it!
Still, see a doctor. It can't do any harm.
All the best

But wouldn't they have tested for thrush when they took a swab?
-
Re: rash/spots on penis head.
Yea they probably would have done. From your post I'm assuming that you went to the docs after trying antifungal creams?
-
Re: rash/spots on penis head.
No i went to the GUM clinic 3 weeks ago where the Dr there said it was either thrush or an allergic reaction to something. The tests i took all come back clear the other day , so it doesn't look like it's thrush. I am currently waiting for a Dr's appointment which is this Friday.
Had a look last night and it looks a bit better, the spot have gone and there is just a couple of small blotches left. Looks a lot better then when it first appeared anyway. Fingers crossed it's on the mend.

Re: rash/spots on penis head.
So i went to the doctors and she said it looks thrush related. I'm totally confused as i would have thought the swab they took at the GUM clinic would have detected any fungus or bacteria. Anyway they give me some new cream so hopefully it works.

Re: rash/spots on penis head.
Worriedmale,
Glad that you finally have a diagnosis. It does seem odd that they didn't pick it up at the GUM clinic: perhaps they were not checking for fungus as technically Candia albicans (aka thrush) is not a sexually transmitted infection. It's also worth pointing out that in some individuals candida is present all the time however, it is only when numbers exceed what the body can cope with that things can become a problem - perhaps your sample did not exceed the minimum level of fungus to be regarded as an infection? Anyway, it doesn't matter now - you've got the the end of what's been bothering you.
That said, thrush isn't serious and in most cases is just an irritant. If you are having unprotected sex it's worth putting on a condom as your partner may be keeping the infection going (candida is normally found in the vagina, albeit at low levels).
Hope things clear up

If it's thrush then why didn't the anti-fungal treatments i used clear it up?

Re: rash/spots on penis head.
At the end of the day this is nature and things can't always be 100% explained. Some people can just get reoccuring thrush which comes and goes over time. Worrying about this thing doesn't help either - thrush is more common in stressed individuals because stress leads to a reduced immune response.

Re: rash/spots on penis head.
Thanks for the information.
I have been prescribed Hydrocortisone cream. Not sure what is different about it from the canesten cream is was using but i will give it a try.
I just want this thing to go. I can't bare to look at my penis at the moment.
-
Re: rash/spots on penis head.
Hi, I don't know what anyone else thinks, but I'm not sure hydrocortisone cream is a good thing to put on your winky? :(

Really? Why is that?
-
Re: rash/spots on penis head.
Kibbutz, you may want to expand on that. That kind of statement does not offer reassurance to a health anxiety sufferer.
Hydro cortisone cream is an anti inflammatory cream often used to reduce swelling, redness etc in allergic reactions. Your doctor will have done this to reduce your body's reaction to the thrush (if it even is there) or another thing that could be irritating you (soap powder, shower gel etc). It is commonly used to treat mild allergic reactions which are shown on the skin. I'm sure it will be fine to put on your penis - a doctor prescribed it to you!

Re: rash/spots on penis head.
Yes, and doctor's are always right!! My son suffer's with eczema on his arms, and sometimes it's spread to his face... He was given hydrocortisone cream by the gp, but told not to use it on his face, as it can damage the skin. I've read things about hydrocortisone, and I know that it's pretty potent stuff... but I err on the side of natural remedies rather than conventional medicines... they very often make things worse! Maybe it would be a good idea for Worried male to do a bit of research himself? Surely that can't do any harm?
-
Re: rash/spots on penis head.
That may well be true but eczema is a a pretty chronic illness. His doctor probably thought it would be ok for short term use until the redness went down.
---------- Post added at 19:49 ---------- Previous post was at 19:46 ----------
Hydro cortisone is also one of the active ingredients in canesten.

Re: rash/spots on penis head.
I'm going to give it a try. Can't be any worse than putting vinegar on my penis. LOL
-
Re: rash/spots on penis head.
Tbh, it doesn't mean it's not "damaging" just because a gp prescribes it... we really need to be our own doctor sometimes, and do as much research as we can :)

Re: rash/spots on penis head.
Day 4 of treatment and i think it's working. The red blotches and spots are starting to subside. I'm hoping another 3-4 days and it will be gone.
One thing tough is the glans have started to go a pale colour. Could it be all the things i have been putting on it the last month or so?
-
Re: rash/spots on penis head.
I spoke too soon. It's come back worse than ever! There are red blotches all over my penis and the inside of my foreskin is dark red.
I'm really getting scared now. I have not slept or eaten since yesterday.

Re: rash/spots on penis head.
Maybe we should call in Dr. House :)
I hate not having a diagnoses but I guess doctors need to rule out the basics first.
Have you had a any tests done? STD test plus that swap test?
Go back to your doctor if he doesn't know what it is, then ask for a referral to a doctor that will.
If it's a skin problem I'm guessing a dermatologist?
Also if you are short of cash there's a lot of free walk in sexual health clinics, considering how many people they see a day they might actually know what is going on.

I went to a sexual health clinic where the doctor said it was either thrush or an allergic reaction to something. Where as my GP thinks it's thrush. I had a swab taken as well as urine and that horrible thing where they stick plastic down your pee hole. All come back clear.

Re: rash/spots on penis head.
Get some Canesten anti-fungal cream, (Daktarin) put it on twice a day until it's gone. Unlike the cream your quack doc prescribed you this cream wont thin your skin and cause more problems.
This type of skin condition is caused by stress, don't worry, it's very common. Give feed back after 10 days of treatment, oh and only use Simple soap products as you have sensitive skin.

Tried the canesten stuff and it was ineffective. Not tried Daktarin tough? Looked online, is it the stuff for athletes foot?

Yes it is, and it works, it kills the fungal that cause the redness etc.

Re: rash/spots on penis head.
Just had a bath and i pulled my foreskin back as far as it can go and i have noticed some yellowish/white patches right under the head. It don't look like smegma or anything as it looks like my skin but has turned a paler colour.
I'm seriously wondering wtf is going on? Could this be thrush?

Sounds like it. Have you been not too fussy with your humping habits? Take some thrush oral tablets maybe, check with Doc first though.

You mean sexual partners? If so than i have been with the same girl for nearly 3 years. She is not showing any symptoms so i doubt i caught it like that.

Re: rash/spots on penis head.
I had something like this years ago , it was tiny red dots and peeling skin in patches on the end of my John Thomas . I can remember it was very itchy aswell !
Wasn,t with a partner at the time and hadn,t been for awhile , it just went on its own after a few weeks . I used savlon which was probably pretty useless !
Try not to stress to much mate you have been checked out so it will go when its ready :yesyes:
Its just one of them things i guess its because of where it is it sounds like some sort of fungal infection .
I know you will be doing this but i,m going to say it anyway (sorry), keep the area very clean and dry apart from the cream on it and it should clear up pretty quickly .
This is what i love about this site you can talk about these things without feeling embarressed , guys are hardly going to bring the subject on a friday in the pub while chatting to there mates .
-
Re: rash/spots on penis head.
I have been using athletes foot spray which stops the itching and keeps it dry. Not had any new bad outbreaks but there are still a couple of little blotches here and there.
Have another doctor's appointment next Friday so hopefully they can give me something a bit stronger for it.
Going to ask for a diabetes test as well.
-
Re: rash/spots on penis head.
Well back from another visit to the doctors who is now saying it doesn't look like thrush. She said if it was thrush i would have other symptoms such as itchiness, smegma build up and discharge etc and that the treatment she gave me would have cleared it up.
She said that it's normal and i will have to learn to live with it and it's only a big deal because i keep looking at it. Well WTF does she expect? My penis looks like it's about to fall off!
I'm really baffled. I'm sure people don't get rashes on their penis for no reason.
-
Re: rash/spots on penis head.
Hi Worried
I'm sorry that you are so worried about your penis. I know I'm not a bloke but I have seen a few penises and many of them have the little spots and pale patches you describe. I think you need to stop putting anything on it at all and concentrate on addressing your HA. stop checking it and distract yourself, I'm sure that pulling the foreskin back to inspect it so often is not doing it any good.
I know it's no easy when you are so worried but please accept that there is nothing wrong with your penis you are just anxious.
xx

Re: rash/spots on penis head.
I think you need a new doctor, she's only a gp, you need a specialist, like maybe a dermatologist!
since it's "new" you should really get a diagnoses, ask your doctor to refer you to someone :)

Re: rash/spots on penis head.
Sounds like an allergic reaction to something. Soap, your girlfriends inner oils, Condoms, Creams, etc.....
Just change your habits for a month and see if it eases. As you see it in the bath maybe its something you put in the bath?
