Omega3 for Anxiety & Depression
Hi all.
I have posted a few times on here, outlining my battle with Anxiety & Depression. I have tried lots all sorts to help me! However, after lots of research I decided to start taking Omega3 every day (the research claims that it is useful for Anxiety & Depression). Genuinely, I have never felt better. It's weird how this capsule has helped! My mood is brighter on a daily basis, my anxiety is lower and more manageable. I can concentrate more, and genuinely feel a lot happier and optimistic!
I have been taking them (with a good Multi vitamin) every morning for over a month now. If you choose to take them, make sure that it contains at least 200mg of Ethyl eicosapentaenoic acid. This 'acid' is what helps.

There is also lots of academic research available that outlines the effectivness of Omega3 (but I wont bore you with the links for these!).

If you suffer with depression & anxiety you really should give them a go. They have minimal side effects and are safe to take.
It might appear like I work for a company promoting Omega3....I dont! I just know how difficult and horrible depression & anxiety can be, and if I can help, I will!

Oddly enough I've started having sardines on toast for lunch a few times each week. When it's not sardines, it's usually Marmite which is apparently rich in b vitamins.
I'm not entirely sure why I'm mentioning this, but I guess I'll see whether there's any improvement over the coming weeks.

My Mum used to tell me folk nowadays don't eat the right things any more, not like they used to before mega mass food production came about, she swore that when that happened they added bland useless stuff (like MSG <[Suspect of causing Obesity] & ash lol) and lost or used less of the good wholesome foods our ancestors used to have. :)

I take 2 0mega 6's everyday plus magnesium,calcium and potassium all of which are great help and known to help anxiety and stress,but really a good healthy diet of fresh fish,veg and fruit plus plenty water and plenty exercise is good

I have been resisting going on anti-depressants for the past 2 1/2 years... I have just been out to buy some Omega -3 capsules... I'm living in Vietnam, so can't get all the stuff that I can get in the west... .the ones that I've found contain 180mg of eicosapentaenoic acid ...not Ethyl eicosapentaenoic acid... I'm hoping that they will do the same job?
How many do you take? One a day or two.. the box i bought recommends taking one capsule, three times a day...

I bought some but haven't taken any yet as i might ask my doctor before i do so but i bought some online and you can take up to 3 pills a day and that would contain.
3,300mg Fish Oil
2,100mg Omega 3
1,080mg EPA
720mg DHA

Thanks, I ordered them last week and they were £16.50 which was quite expensive but there's enough to last me 2 months or so and these are very high strength Omega 3 pills.
I have done a lot of research on Omega 3 which prompted me to buy some, I have read that they are beneficial for Asthma (Which i have), Arthritis, he Heart, Depression, Anxiety, Memory Problems, Inflammation and even things like Aches & Pains and various other things so i thought i would buy some and give them a try.

I've been taking them along with Bacopa monnieri and I have to say, my mood has changed for the better. I feel brighter and don't have the morbid depressing thoughts like I used to. I wish I had known about fish oil a long time ago. :yahoo:

I am taking omega 3 capsules and although today I am having bit of a bad day, on the whole I do think they are helping me think clearer and banish some of that anxiety and OCD.
Im going to stick them out and fingers crossed they work xx:)

I am a great believer in fish oil capsules. They always help me, I take a good quality Vitamin B complex too.
Anxiety and depression really drain your body of nutrition.

Try vegepa -- a combination of Omega 3 and evening primrose oil. You can get it from Igennus and they are really helpful

Depends on your fatty acids levels. There is a useful information and dosage on Igennus website: vegepa.com. If you want a specific advice, you may get in touch with Dr Nina from Igennus, who will advice you how many capsules of fish oil (and how often) you should take per day (after careful consultation).

Fish oils have helped me SO much! I was really sceptical about them but after the first week off taking them I was totally converted haha!

Its all to do with the EPA content of the Omega 3 apparently. Apparently the studies showed a positive difference to people with depression who took EPA of 1000mg per day. So check out the EPA content on the back of the bottle. 4 capsules a day of the Eskimo 3 Fish Oil is 960mg so that is what I take. :)

what is the kind of time scale on this does anyone know?
I began to take fish oil supplements just under a month ago, and I am not expecting anything overnight or anything, just wondering how soon any effect was seen

I am about to order some omega 3 but I am ordering krill oil which is purer and 42% high in omega 3 im ordering mine from iherb which is in the states but it only costs about £10-12.

This. There's a website where a huge amount of research was collated.

EPA needs to be around 1000mg, and a tablet needs to be at least 60% EPA and no more than 40% DHA. Now you may find that a 1000mg Omega 3 tablet is only 180mg EPA and 120mg DHA, so effectively, you'd need to take six tablets a day to get 1000mg EPA.

Omega 6 is known to cause pain related anxiety, rather than relieve. I would change to Omega 3 unless Omega 6 is working for you. Omega 3 is supposed to balance out the Omega 6.

Unfortunately, Omega 3 can take some time before it starts to work - as much as 4-6 weeks. If you're particularly struggling, why not try some Inositol and/or Magnesium - which has much more rapid relief.

I've started to take some Hemp oil capsules that are meant to be a good source of omega 3. Has anyone else tried these?

Hi i order mine online. It comes in liquid form. It cost me £11.95 and that lasts for 2 months. The epa is 644mg per spoonful and yes it seems to benefit me alot. 👍

Hi,
I recently saw a homeopathic dr who told me to buy Nordic Naturals omega 3 as it is the purest fish oil you can get. I only started taking them yesterday so fingers crossed they make a difference.

Fish oil is in fatty fish (sardines, salmon, halibut, herring..) If you regularly eat some fish, you will not likely have any additional benefit from fish oil capsules.
Fish oil (omega-3 fatty acids) can lower triglyceride levels in people with high levels. This is pretty much the only effect confirmed by studies. There is insufficient evidence about the effectiveness of fish oil or fish liver oil in preventing or treating depression.
