Spotting between periods
Hi there,
My period ended on the 11th November and everything was normal but then 5 days later in the morning my vaginal discharge was tinged with blood I ignored it because I've had something similar before and then it happened in afternoon. Again I just ignored but then the next morning there was more blood only when I wipe. I'm starting to get a bit worried now and I've had history of HA which I don't want to come back again as it took me a long time to get over it.
I don't know if this other issue is connected to it but my breasts have been a bit achy too. Its all so strange and worrying. Just looking for some reassurance i guess.

Re: Spotting between periods
If your breasts are achy and you have spotting then it sounds like it could be slight hormonal variation. Just one thing to consider - you aren't pregnant are you ? A one off shouldn't be something to be concerned about, some people have it mid-cycle, but you should run it by your GP if it happens again or it concerns or there are other symptoms. When you had it once before was it recently ?

Re: Spotting between periods
What colour was the blood? I often get dark brown blood in my cervical mucus around ovulation, I read online it’s from old blood that hasn’t completely cleared from the previous cycle. It’s also not every month either. My cycle also changes from 25-29 days regularly. X

I have had a period since the last time I had sex so I don't think I could be pregnant. The last time this happened was a long time ago and was once and then nothing. This is now the third day and all day I had nothing then this afternoon I felt a bit wet so went to the toilet and yet again I had bloody discharge. Really don't know whats going on and it's worrying me. Im going to give my gp call tomorrow.

The blood is pink coloured. I've had brown blood before and was never concerned as I know its old blood from period but this I don't like as it's been more than one day.

Re: Spotting between periods
Yes, probably wise to call the GP for a chat. The achey breasts along with this spotting would be something that would go with hormonanl imbalance mid-cycle or the last period simply not ending or even starting up again (anything is possible), but if this is unusual for you then def. get your mind put at rest. Please do let us know how you get on :) (for me, being over 50 this type of thing is part of the joys of nearly meno, but as you are much younger I think then it needs a discussion)

Re: Spotting between periods
This morning when I woke up I had some more blood in discharge. Not alot but none the less still there. So I got my gp to give me a call. She told me a number of things it could be but didn't want to see me or there was no urgency about it so I guess that's a good thing. But she said to make a routine appointment with her in 3 weeks if it continues. So I don't know do I just wait and see.. After this mornings episode of blood I've since had clear discharge so I'm so confused one moment it's blood or pink coloured next moment it's clear. Very frustrating not knowing what my body is doing. Really hope it stops soon and goes back to normal. It's not really something I want to have to think about with Xmas coming up.

Re: Spotting between periods
What were the 'number of things it could be?'
-
Re: Spotting between periods
Nothing serious she mentioned stds but my partner and I have been together 10 years and haven't had any other sexual partners in that time. We've both also had std checks in the past. She also mentioned body just being out of whack a bit as I had a baby just 3 and a half months ago or could even be something called ectropian which sounds scarier than it is and is normal.
Ive booked a routine appointment with her on the 10th December so if I'm still bleeding by then I will see what she says but she did say if any new symptoms or heavy bleeding then to come back to her sooner but overall she wasn't concerned. Just fingers crossed the blood stops I have a period before my appointment so I'm hoping my body somehow works itself out and goes back to normal.

Re: Spotting between periods
Wooooah hold on, that was fairly critical information that you didn't mention earlier - you had a baby 3 1/2 months ago !!!!! Well, the whole 'hormones out of whack' is even more hugely likely.
-
Re: Spotting between periods
Haha yes I forgot to mention that! I will blame baby brain for that

The baby is also almost certainly to blame for the weird discharge! Keep an eye like your doctor said, but I would definitely not be concerned about that 3 months after giving birth!

Re: Spotting between periods
I hope so. I had a tiny amount of blood tinged disharge this morning but very little much less than the other days. I just wish it would get lost so I don't have to think about it.

Re: Spotting between periods
More blood this afternoon pink coloured only in my discharge :( starting to get a bit down about it now. I am trying to keep my HA at bay but it's really hard. I just have the worst case scenario going around my head.

Re: Spotting between periods
From my own experience it can take many days for this type of thing to resolve -if we go with the hormone theory for now as the most likely. The correct hormones need to rise and adjust, this doesn't happen instantly and I've had this for a week at a time. Don't panic, I know its stressful when anything out of the ordinary happens like this, but your doctor wasn't concerned and only said to return if it became heavier/didn't stop. I think from what you are saying that the general pattern is that it is less than it was, but still slightly there ? The type of pattern you are describing with clear then blood tinged/pink is something I can relate to and have gone a week or so with that happening, 'its stopped' 'no it hasn't' situation. The more relaxed, tough I know, you can be about it the better - as anxiety increases adrenaline instead of the very necessary progesterone.

Re: Spotting between periods
Thank you for the reassurance :) I'm trying to have a positive attitude about it and keeping busy which is helping me. Im going to stay as calm as possible.

Re: Spotting between periods
After yesterday's episode I had nothing for the rest of the day it was normal and clear. I've been wearing a pad to keep track also and there was nothing on it this morning but when I wiped I had discharge which was clear apart from one small streak of pink blood. So it's definently less than what it has been but still present. Very confusing situation and I'm having moments of ups and downs emotionally with all this.

Re: Spotting between periods
Sometimes it can take more than three months for the body to go back to normal after a baby. Just keep an eye out.
-
Re: Spotting between periods
Well I had no episodes of blood in disharge for 2 weeks just normal. Clear discharge. But now today I had a bit but not sure if this is actually my period coming argh so confusing. I'm getting annoyed with it now because I don't know what to think. My period is due and I just want it to hurry up so I know what the deal is never thought I would wish for my period to come but hey.
Having all the period symptoms tummy pain, low mood, spots, teary. But my anxiety just want to inform me that it's clearly not my period coming and that I'm probably dying...
-
Re: Spotting between periods
Standard hormone issues, becoming more obvious in my eyes. I had 6 days of spotting this week and last week, now on day 43 of cycle !!!! Awaiting a period.....
I know you are younger and recently post-baby, but I'm just demonstrating how once a few of the female hormones are out of kilter, irregularity and oddities arise.

Re: Spotting between periods
My period turned up in the middle of the night. A huge sigh of relief for me. Deep down I knew this light blood when wiping was my period but of course anxiety didn't want me to believe that. I feel after a having a baby my period is different. The flow isn't how it used to be not sure if this is just hormones and it will eventually go back to normal but for now I'm happy that nothing scary is happening.
-
Re: Spotting between periods
Yes, lol, its because 3 months ago you had a baby.....it takes a year or more to get back to normal ! We've been trying to tell ya that. :roflmao:

Re: Spotting between periods
Hi all,
I'm back again :( after being happy about the pink discharge stopping and my normal period coming. I'm worried again. So I had my period from the 1st until the 8th Dec. 3 days later I had sex and the day after in the morning I had normal clear discharge but later on in the day after lunchtime I felt wet so went to the toilet and it was my discharge but it was pink tinged discharge again with tiny amount of blood streaks. I'm so gutted and feeling so down and scared again. I don't know what to do. I didn't go to my doctors appointment on the 10th because the discharge had stopped and my doctor said I didn't need to go if it stopped.

Re: Spotting between periods
Hi anxiety girl:) so just thought I'd share a bit about my experience. I had a baby in May 2018, I breastfed him till just 6 weeks ago. Beginning of August 2019 I got my first post baby period. Well since then I've had moments of utter panic because I've had pink spotting between periods and I've never had that before. This was my 5th baby and I'm in the early 30s. I went to see a local womens health nurse and she said she sees this very often in women in their 30s. I don't know how old you are, but even just having had a baby recently, your hormones wont have leveled out yet. Have you recently had a pap smear?
I know how absolutely terrifying it can be to see blood when you're not supposed to! Thinking of you and praying for you.
-
Re: Spotting between periods
Hi thank you for your reply. I'm 32 and i had a clear pap in August of 2018. My doctor wasn't overly concerned when I last spoke to her and I also just spoke to another doctor on the phone as I was feeling too anxious. They said it is quite normal for this to happen after sex especially when my period has only ended a few days ago. However if it continues for a long period of time then to get an examination. So I'm just going to wait and see how things go for now. Its weird because this happened last month as well, a few days after the end of my period I have pink discharge so I'm starting to think its just some blood still left clearing out. I'm trying to stay positive.

Re: Spotting between periods
I've had pink spotting after my period's for a few days as well, the last few months. I've panicked about it a few times, but I try not to worry too much. I'm sure you're fine, our bodies have to figure things out again after not having a cycle for a while.
-
Re: Spotting between periods
Hi again. I'm spiralling and I really don't want to :( the pink discharge not alot just tiny amounts has appeared exactly 4 days after my period exactly the same as last month. Is this just me ovulating as I would be on day 11 of my cycle. Is this just a thing that happens with me now each month. Im just so scared as I haven't experienced this before until last month. I wish I had gone to the doctors appointment but didn't see the need as the problem had gone. Argh this is so frustrating I don't know what to do. Should I wait it out and see if it stops like last time. Just looking for some advice and reassurance please I don't have anyone else to talk to because people jump on my HA straight away. So I keep everything to myself now.

Re: Spotting between periods
This spotting stuff is really messing with my HA I'm so upset. I done so so well for ages with no episodes of HA now I'm in a state of worry and panic. Thinking about other things now that have come out of nowhere. Starting to check other body parts now my breasts worrying about breast cancer worrying if I can feel a lump or not. For god sake I've worked so hard to get over my HA and its all coming back again. I don't think i could cope with it all again it made me so ill the last time. I ended up on sertraline last time. I'm worried I will have to go back on it again. Why is this happening to me when I was doing so well. In actual tears from this.

Re: Spotting between periods
I know so exactly what you are feeling!
I've been having off and on pink spotting between periods too since I got my first postpartum period. It's very terrifying! I'm not sure what to say to help you, but I would maybe go see your doctor for your own peace of mind.
But you have to remember that it could very well be hormonal, since you recently had a baby. It takes our bodies a while to get everything straightened out.
-
Re: Spotting between periods
Yes maybe so. I've been tracking the discharge and I'm starting to think it's just me ovulating and this is when it has occurred each month. I've just never experienced it before. Maybe after having a baby my periods have changed and I now have this discharge when ovulating. There is a definite pattern being exactly the same as last month. The fact there is a pattern makes me less worried.
I'm just on to my new worry now about my breasts and not knowing what lumps and bumps are normal and what's not I mean how am i supposed to know I'm not a doctor. So I'm thinking each thing i feel in my breast is something scary to worry about :( now have the fear of thinking I could possibly have breast cancer. This is really getting out of control i need to speak to my doctor Monday about all of it.

Re: Spotting between periods
Are you breastfeeding your baby? Cause that can make the breasts really lumpy and bumpy.
-
Re: Spotting between periods
No not breastfeeding.
I can feel normal soft lumps in both my breasts but a few bumps have popped out at me for some reason I don't know if it's my HA trying to play games with me or what. But I don't know what is normal breast tissue for me that's why I'm hoping if my doctor examines me and confirms its normal for me it will give me a base to know what to look out for when examining my breasts.

Re: Spotting between periods
Woke up sick to my stomach and nearly vomited. I'm absolutly terrified and waiting for 8am to come so I can calm the doctors. I hope I get an appointment.
-
Re: Spotting between periods
I managed to get an appointment with my usual doctor at 9.30am so i can go straight there after I take my doctor to school so no waiting around. Still so scared but more relieved now i have an appointment.

Re: Spotting between periods
Well I went to the doctors, they put me down as missing my appointment it was at half 9 I was there from 9am! Then all the computers had an issue. I was waiting so long for my appointment I ended up nearly crying. I finally was seen it wasn't my doctors fault problem with receptionists.
My doctor gave me a breast examination she told me I have healthy breasts :) the relief was instant! She spoke about the areas of my breast which are denser and fuller so I know next time. I'm over the moon about it because I spent this whole weekend worried sick.
I still have the spotting issue but I am still ovulating. I'm on day 5 of spotting and I'm ovulating at the moment so I'm not too concerned. As long as the spotting stops within the next couple of days. My period is due again in 14 days so its all making sense to me. Last time when the bleeding happened it stopped 11 days before my next period came so I'm just monitoring and keeping track atm. But I feel like I can now enjoy Christmas :)

Re: Spotting between periods
Congratulations, I'm so happy for you!

Re: Spotting between periods
On to day 6 of bloody/ pink discharge on and off through the day. Starting to get low AGAIN and worried. My next period is due on the 29th December. Just don't know what to think

Re: Spotting between periods
Feeling sick to my stomach this morning. Still getting blood or pink in my discharge. Going to call my doctor because I'm fed up now and don't know what's going in. It's so frightening. The only thing keeping me sane is the fact I've had a clear smear test in August 2018.

Re: Spotting between periods
An update on my situation.
So I went to the doctors. I told her everything that has been happening she told me everything I had told her didn't seem worrying. She examined my cervix and said it all looked healthy. I have some ectropian which can cause bleeding.
Shes sending me an ultrasound beacuse that's the only thing there really is to do. So I now have to wait for an appointment for that but she said she doesn't expect anything to come from that.
When I get the results from that if im still getting the bloody pink discharge I will take some pills to reregulate everything because she said adter having a baby only 4 months ago periods can change. So have to wait and see now. Fingers crossed my ultrasound is clear I have to have one internally and outside. I've had this 4 months when pregnant so I know what to expect. I'm hoping the fact I had one 4 months ago and nothing showed on there means good things. Reason for last ultrasound was due to bleeding in the later part of my pregnancy where I had placenta previa the placenta was lying very low and had to have my son by csection earlier than expected.
I'm still worried of course but I'm glad I saw a doctor and she checked me inside saying everything looked heatlyh makes me feel a bit better.
