Complete Lack of Motivation
I've been suffering this for a while now and just wanted to discuss with others who might have this problem.
Throughout the day I experience periods of complete lack of motivation. I do not want to do anything. People say I should find something I enjoy to break out of it, but that never works.
In these periods I can't even pick up a book to read. All I do is lie down in bed and stare at the walls.
Believe me I have tried doing things I enjoy, and even going out for walks, but it doesn't stop this happening. I've tried things like: cooking, spring cleaning, reading, playing a game, going for walks, drawing etc.
When I am feeling like this my mood is low, and agitated. They do progress into thoughts of self harm and suicide BUT I am in full control of those emotions and do not cross that line.
When I'm not in these moods I do all the things I enjoy, and am happy.
Help?
Re: Complete Lack of Motivation
Yesterday I ended up taking more tablets than I should just so I can sleep most of the day away. I'm having the same feelings today since I got up at 8, so I've just dosed extra with my meds again to fall asleep today.
Re: Complete Lack of Motivation
I wouldn't have said it was a good idea to take extra meds.
Re: Complete Lack of Motivation
Never a good idea, no. I lost a dear friend to an accidental overdose.

Sorry to hear that Blue. I'm no where near overdose limits, but I take an extra quetiapine to knock me out. I woke up at 6pm, missed most of the day but oddly I don't mind that. These feelings I have in the day time are too unpleasant to deal with and would rather sleep than go through that.
It really sucks because I don't have a "real" doctor to be discussing any of this with. I want to be assessed for bipolar but have no idea how to go about that.
Re: Complete Lack of Motivation
How much quetiapine are you taking?
Re: Complete Lack of Motivation
The prescribed amount, and sometimes 1 extra 25mg if I want to sleep.
Re: Complete Lack of Motivation
I didn't know that quetiapine came in 40mg tablets. Is that a new thing?

This episode seems to be passing, but it's swings and roundabouts. One day I'm fine, the next I'm not.
What I have found helps me is to have a routine. All last week I rose at 8am-9am, cleaned the house, had a bath, and then relaxed. Having that something to do in the mornings to kickstart the day seems to e helpful. Also been decorating slowly.
I've got my little brother staying for a while until he finds a place. Relationship breakup. Before my Dad died he told me to never leave him out and stay in touch with him. He has a different Mom and for over 16 years I hardly knew my brother. But he needs some help. The good thing is he is also a programmer and a genius on the computer so we'll have lots to do and talk about.
