Massive anxiety - my dog has hernia
I'm having a massive anxiety rebound at the moment. Me and my partner needed to travel abroad this week. Yesterday in the afternoon we noticed that our dog didnt greet us upon our arrival home. We checked and itturned out that he had dificulties walking.
We immediately went to the vet. She examined him, and told us that maybe he has a sprain, so he needs cagerest. I told the vet that we need to travel, and I asked if he would be ok at the cage rest at a dog hotel. She confirmed.
In the morning the dog was feeling great. He was playful, went for a normal walk and we thought wverything was great. A few hours later we got a call from the dog hotel that our dog cannot move his rear legs. He was transported to the vet immediately, got an xray, and there was no conclusive evidence of hernia except for his neurological responses.
He is now at the vet clinic, we have to wait until tomorrow to see what will happen next, and I'm losing my mind over the fact that I'm 1700 km away, only returning on Saturday, and I can't even be there to reassure him. I want to be there to care for him and the helplessness is driving me nuts.
Can someone please tell me if they had a similar issue with their dog's health?? I'm terrified...

I just wish I could be there with him, to pet him, and care for him, and I hope he can feel my love despite the distance.

I promise you I have not lost my mind but....
Can't you ring and have the vet put the phone to his ear so he can hear your voice?. I'm sure it would be very comforting for him. :hugs:
I hope he makes a very speedy recovery.

Thanks bottleblond I wanted to ask the vet to do it already yesterday, but I was afraid the vet would laugh me out...
I will call and ask her to do it today. Come to think about it, she probably had people asking about that before.

I had to leave my dog at the vet's when I moved,I would talk too him on the phone every day,the nurses at the vet hospital know that I suffer from bad anxiety and panic, don't feel bad about asking my dog knew it was me,he is fine now and living with a friend as the place I live in won't allow dogs..

I'm sorry to hear that you can't have your dog with you Lola-Lee. :-( The fact that he is fine and living with someone who you know will care good for him must be reasuring.
I got an update from the vet yesterday. My doggy had to be taken to specialistic clinic in another city, and after an MRI it was concluded that he must be taken to an emergency surgery.
The surgery lasted longer than expected because he bleed a lot.
I'm waiting for a new update this morning. Please, cross your fingers for us guys.

I got an update from the vet assistent. My dog survived the night, and will be rechecked by the vet soon. I was told he doesn't want to take any oral medicine, so I'm guessing he must be feeling better if he has the energy to fight the vet staff.

Yeah, what a little beauty! Fingers crossed he won't be wearing his lampshade for long.
I think your reaction is just typical of any pet lover. They're family and we love them but feel guilty because they don't understand. If he hears your voice he will feel better and so will you.
It sounds like he's in good hands. Wishing him a swift recovery.
