What do you folks do to get rid of that nasty cough after a flu?
So I got over a flu from several weeks ago (first to second week of January) and I'm generally ok but I've been dealing with this weird mucusy-cough that won't go away.
Used the proper Google terms to make sure I don't bring up anything scary, and apparently a persistent or "nagging cough" is very common after the flu. Has something to do with the throat nerves/receptors or whatever being sensitive after having coughed so much while you were actually sick.
This is driving me nuts as I keep feeling this tickling sensation in my throat, and I go into coughing fits when trying to talk and have to suppress the need to cough before I open my mouth.
I know it will "go away" in a few weeks but I just find it annoying. I'd like to be able to talk - people at my office are on edge about that virus and anyone coughing just makes them more paranoid. I have to assure them that it's just my allergies, etc. causing it, but not being able to talk before coughing does get irritating.
So what are you solutions for it?

I get this too any hate it.
During the day I have water and cough drops near me.
At night I put Vicks on my throat and cover it with a dry cotton cloth. It's not the most comfortable thing but it allows me to sleep.

Hot water with lemon and honey - don't waste money on other remedies.

I'm a fresh lemon and honey in hot water fan too, and sucking throat sweets - not medicated ones particularly just soothers. I have to say I tried black tea and honey during my last flu episode, and it was really good at soothing and stopping that tickling and coughing that lasted weeks.

Definitely the lemon honey and hot water. Old remedy but it works - it breaks up the mucus and eventually you will able to cough it up and expel it. I've had two bouts of this since Christmas and it's taken nearly two weeks of current bout to get rid of it. Nearly there!
And whatever you do don't Google it - you'll be convinced you have that corona virus!

Huh, I have some honey here. I'll try the lemon honey and hot water trick. That sounds tasty and comfy and soothing as well. Thanks all.

Everyone that’s recommending hot water, lemon, and honey - any particular measurements as far as how much lemon and honey to add to it? Just squirt in some of each? Going to give this a shot for my post flu cough!! Thank you!
