White patches on side of tongue
Hi all I'm new and been reading on the forum for awhile just never posted. But I am a 25 year old female, I have 3 white patches on the side of the tongue. I had them checked by my Ent and he said it's from my teeth last April and it's now January and they're still there. I saw a nurse practitioner as my doctor wasn't available until May and she said its mostly from clenching of the jaw. I'm just freaking out it might be Cancer or something. I do clench all the time and have annoying extra tooth in the back that could be causing problems. I usually dont get worked up about anything but this is freaking me out! Anyone have any similar situations?
Re: White patches on side of tongue
I have white patches on my cheeks and tongue that come from my teeth and clenching my jaw, I wouldn't be worried at all. You're not alone!
Re: White patches on side of tongue
I have a white patch on the side of my tongue. It hurts a little. I also clench my jaw and grind my teeth. I'm not sure if its from my teeth or a canker sore. Just got it today.
Re: White patches on side of tongue
I grind and clench my jaw and have white lines on the inside of my cheeks on both sides and also on the side of my tongue kind of like scar tissue from clenching my teeth and biting my tongue.

If it's sore it may be thrush which will need treatment. I've had this a couple of times due to dry mouth issues. I also get white marks on the inside of my cheeks due to how my teeth sit in the jaw.
Re: White patches on side of tongue
Look up "leukoplakia" online. Its just where your teeth rub gently all the time. It is at your age safe --as you have been advised. I old age it can be an issue.
Chill
Dick --ex DR --not insured so advice is to be taken as such
Best wishes

Its definitely not that as it's on ONE side of my tongue and been there for quite some time and theres no pain. I also would think the nurse practitioner would know if it was thrush. I have nothing on my cheeks except where the extra tooth is.

Hi Cooks!
I had this after overusing listerine. I googled like an idiot and self diagnosed alsorts! Eventually went to see a specialist who took a look and said 'oh that's just some benign hyperkeratosis' Nothing to worry about. If you have a tooth that's slightly worn down or sharp it will make these white marks. If you have a look inside your cheek, you may see similar. My white patches were a bit sensitive to hot, cold and spice. They were there for years and eventually I stopped worrying and they dulled down a bit. Just had a look and they are still there a bit.
Hope that helps :-) :hugs:
