I read an article about how reality only exists when we observe it and this has freaked me out. What if I'm not real or nothing around me is real? What if this proves we live in a simulation?

Pinch yourself hard! Simulations don't hurt ;)
Positive thoughts
If the articles scare you, don't read them.
It really doesn't matter if you don't give it too much thought.
Actually simulation theory is taken quite seriously by some top scientists. But, it's just a theory. Study it, enjoy it, and then go about studying other theories. A theory doesn't mean fact either. The theory of evolution is taught as fact, but it is like everything else ... just a theory.
Quantum physics is fascinating. I'm engrossed in it myself. Quantum entanglement blows my mind. The double slit experiment is something I want to solve. You can laugh at me, but it's in my thoughts daily and I've spent huge amounts of time studying quantum theory ... and I still barely understand it.
That's the thing about Quantum Physics. The classic Newtonian laws do not apply at the quantum level. Read the works of Niels Bohr, Max Planck. and Werner Heisenberg.
If you're just watching Youtube videos on this stuff turn it off, it's garbage. Procrastinate on something that you enjoy.
I think it's a huge over reaction to worry about this and may mean you need to speak to your doctor about your recent feelings.
