I wonder if any visitors are allowed at thread jail?
In the vast majority of cases "Admin Review" happens when members complain about a thread.
We (the admin team) then discuss whether to keep the thread open or not.
And no we do get off on a power trip deleting posts or closing threads.
We are well aware that actions can cause anxiety to rise.
We are at all times trying to do our best for the site.
I am sure that many of you will disagree with some of our actions. but they are made with the best of intentions and years of experience of the site.
Elen,
Thanks for this post. Very well said. I don't believe admin's are on a power trip and I'm sure you have to guard against letting your own personal biases come into play when removing a thread.
Let me ask, do reviewed threads ever get put back up?
Thanks again.
N.
TBH it all depends on the thread and the reasons for closing it down,
I just thought it meant something needing a decision by the Admin team as opposed to a situation that is clear cut enough for one to take action.
But there does seem to be a trend of good threads getting killed off this way on that board. Wouldn't it make more sense to back out posts, warn us all and continue? There has been some very interesting information that can help people but as it veers into CT land and views are challenged along comes a shut down, ironically what some are complaining about. Then it just starts up again and the cycle continues.
It's not new, it's just it's normally on the main politics threads and normally about certain countries. I think this is why people like N are asking.
I have gone back and looked at this thread and where to start moderating is a big problem.
When a thread turns so toxic and groups of people are having a go at each other it gets to a stage where to stop further arguments it is best to leave the thread closed.
The simple answer is if you do not want posts deleted and threads closed, stick to the forum rules and do not start name calling.
Probably not the answer you wanted Terry, but tbh for every post or thread we delete or merge we get a backlash.
Sometimes shutting a thread down is the best option for all concerned.
This is not something we want to do so it is up to each of us to self moderate our posts.
