Fear of Plumbing Leaks - feel need to keep checking for leaks
So, I am not sure if this qualifies as OCD, but I am currently very concerned about leaks from my plumbing and feel like I have to continually check. I had some work done a couple of years ago to install a water softener in my finished basement. Since then I have had 3 separate leaks in different areas of the piping installed, and 2 near leaks that I caught before it opened up (the impacted joint was corroded but not yet leaking). Technicians from one plumbing company installed the system and came out the fix the 3 leaks and one near leak. Four different technicians were involved. I finally decided that I did not trust this company and called a different, highly recommended plumber last week. He replaced most (but not all) of the impacted piping using a different pipe connection method. While he was here I noticed an additional corroded joint that would have begun leaking within weeks, and he replaced that too. Everything looks ok right now (as it has every time one of the other company’s techs left), but I am concerned that something else in that area will leak and feel the need to keep checking. This has only become bad after the last leak and finding the corroded joint last week. I think my concern is justified, as I have had multiple leaks that I very fortunately caught quickly each time, so there was no major damage, and how can I be confident that it won’t happen again. However, I do feel that I am checking more frequently than is reasonable, but I find it hard to know what reasonable is after so many episodes.

Does no one have any suggestions or thoughts?
i called the plumber back today to check a spot that apparently was the pipe “sweating” but any moisture in this area and I panic.

I know that there's nothing worse than water and leaks! When I had some reno's done in my kitchen and bathroom I had to call the plumber back 4 times, he really was that shoddy!!
I think you've got into the habit of checking the bad plumbing and this has continued although the new plumber has fixed things properly. You could give yourself permission to check things out say 3 set times per day, for one week, then drop in down to 2, then 1. After that try a couple of times per week until you are reassured that your plumbing is fine :)

Thanks. I am already checking only once or twice a day, but it is the worrying that bothers me.
after finding this new damp area last night it has reactivated my concern. Bit not as bad as a few weeks ago.
Hopefully it was just condensation. Going away for a few days next week and will be turning the water off while gone, so I know I will get at least a 5 day reprieve from this!
