Sertraline/Zoloft: what are your side-effects?
I thought it would be useful, for those of us on Sertraline, to list the side effects which we had when starting it (and any side effects which we continue to have). Some of them are less common than others, so perhaps seeing other people's experiences could reassure anyone who is starting the medication?
I've been on Sertraline since November 2018, initially on 50mg then up to 100mg after 3 weeks. So far, I've experienced...
- severe nausea and dizziness for the first 24 hours
- fatigue and *increased* anxiety for the first 48 hours
- a hyper state and extreme jaw clenching/teeth grinding for the first week
- occasional bleeding gums within the first 3-4 weeks
- still clenching my jaw/grinding my teeth (though less severely) for a couple of months
- weight loss, although this might not be due entirely to the Sertraline
And on the plus side, I'm experiencing much less anxiety! I still have anxious thought patterns and panics, but I find myself better able to cope with them, and less prone to the physical side effects of anxiety.

Night sweats! And vivid dreams. As well as most of what you listed above...
Re: Sertraline/Zoloft: what are your side-effects?
I’m on my third day 25mg & was wondering if anyone else experienced feeling similar to drinking your first cup of coffee - kind of hig/wired & then later feeling low?
Other than that I’ve had the clenched jaw & slightly dizziness but so far no increase of anxiety (thank god!)

Being tired but not being able to sleep was the biggie for me
Lasted about 6 weeks

Really high anxiety that lasts all day , feeling very low , feeling scared and crying all the time , is it really worth it ????
Re: Sertraline/Zoloft: what are your side-effects?
How long have you been on it for, Tristan? I found that it took at least 3-4 weeks for the worst side effects to pass, and a real improvement to be felt. It’s making a big difference to my anxiety and my ability to cope with that.
