What Music are you listening to? What music helps you?
Ive just read an article that goes on about music that has helped people with BiPolar, ill list a few here to see what people think. I've never heard of a couple of these.
“Girl Anachronism” by The Dresden Dolls , yes its Amanda F£$king Palmer and its brilliant, agree it has a very strong lyric content
“Falling Away From Me” by Korn, apparently the singer has mental health problems himself, I need to seek this out, have never heard of it ?
“Wish You Were Here” by Pink Floyd, a song about a missing band member who had mental health problems, Syd Barrett I think, Ive always been quite anti prog but Ive very drawn to the brilliant fish bowl lyric here and actually its just a good song regardless
“Papercut” by Linkin Park , ive heard this as my son used to play Linkin Park, and Im aware that the singer was troubled, I find this track grating personally but Its strong heady stuff
“Manic” by Coleman Hell, no sh1t, this is actually a song about BiPolar and its a great song, ‘When I feel crazy, I hide it and fall apart in private,’ we all do plenty of that
“This Is Gospel” by Panic! At The Disco, head of PATD but havent heard this track, need to seek it out
“Primadonna Girl” by Marina and the Diamonds, I like the lyrics of this song though it sort of shows the 'up' side of disordered minds
“Half” by PVRIS, keen to hear this as it is apparently about living at both ends of the spectrum
“I Don’t Feel Like Dancin’” by Scissor Sisters, this absolutely reminds me of hypomania and for a few years was my favourite song to sing at Karaoke especially trying to hit the falsetto sequence
A Match Into Water” by Pierce The Veil, another one I need to seek out, havent heard this but apparently about chemical imbalances
“Defying Gravity” from Wicked, mmmmmm, not my thing at all but some folks have said that this really reflects the mood they can have at times, I sort of get that
“Try a Little Kindness” by Glen Campbell, i like that they included this in the list of 12 tracks as I love the lyrics for this and though I cant normally stand C&W, Glens voice is super good on this song

Re: What Music are you listening to? What music helps you?
Now I'm in the modern age I'm filling up an MP3 for in my van ( back in the day it would have been a glove box full of cassettes and a shelf of vinyl ) , my music used to be punk then rock now im old enough and ugly enough to like anything that takes my fancy , louder the better ( it drowns out the voices :D)
My categories are Up , Down and guilty pleasures
Two mentioned tracks , Metallica nothing else matters and Jonny cash hurt , very depressing songs but on my MP3 and all time favourites.
So here's a few off my MP3 I'll let you decide which category they fit in .
Rollling stones , wild horses
Undertones , teenage kicks
AC/DC Back in black
Metallica, unforgiven
Bob Dylan , like a rolling stone
Police , Roxanne
Linkin park , numb
Cranberries , zombie
Elvis , suspicious minds
Neil diamond , shweeeeet Caroline
Red hot chilli peppers , under the bridge .
Beatles , Hey Jude
Looking at my list I may have multiple personality disorder :D I wonder what they'd play at my funeral ? Probably the theme tune to Benny hill .

Re: What Music are you listening to? What music helps you?
I can be having the day from hell ( most days ) but if a good track comes on while I'm driving for those 3 or 4 minutes I feel like sticking my head out of the window like a dog , in this mental game we have to take any good time that comes along and music is better than diazepam short term although I'm told some songs are highly addictive :yesyes:

Nice one Richard, that must've been awsome:D
I've missed out on a few gigs in the last few years due to anxiety and trying to get my health sorted. I missed out on seeing Alice In Chains at the start of the summer, Dweezil Zappa last October and Steel Panther a few years ago.

Wubu, Thanks for that. I like it:D
I was a big listener to a band called Ozric Tentacles in the 90s and still listen to them now. It reminds me a little of that Jakob track. Try Eternal Wheel by them and see what you think.

Music is great for your headspace
I've gone a bit bonkers with Vinyl recently, listening to my old vinyl, scouring 2nd hand shops for vinyl and buying some new vinyl
Recent listens:-
David Bowie - No Plan 12" ep, Blackstar & The Next Day
Pulp - Different Class
The Jam - About the Young Idea
-
Re: What Music are you listening to? What music helps you?
Found a great great modern Ruts song called 'Kill the Pain' I think, really enjoyed it and sometimes bands can still come up with great new material
-
Re: What Music are you listening to? What music helps you?
I'm one of the mugs who has coughed up £18 for the 12 mini discs of hacked Radiohead archives
Theres so much of it but there are little gems in there
12 minutes Paranoid Android is fabulous and Radiohead with all its bells and whistles around the era of Ok Computer was high on creativity
Also have the OKNOTOK release which I really enjoy

Re: What Music are you listening to? What music helps you?
Im completely bingeing on 'The Cure' at the moment
IN last few days have listened to:-
Disintegration, Wild Mood Swings, The Head on the Door albums

Re: What Music are you listening to? What music helps you?
I have a problem with music because it contains too many associations with past bad times.
I now got an app called Deezer and listen to music what's completely neutral and contrary to my previous tastes
So it's now classical, bossa nova and meditation music. Not sure whether I like it much, but no negative association And it relaxes too.
-
Re: What Music are you listening to? What music helps you?
^Wow.. that is interesting. Hmmm.. I find some music to trigger me for that same reason. Never thought of neutral music. Thanks for the recommendation :)
-
Re: What Music are you listening to? What music helps you?
Thats interesting as I've never found music to ever trigger anything for me, guess thats lucky as it means its something that I can 'go to' when needed.
Currently listening to some really retro stuff, perhaps stuff that doesn't have a lot of kudos to it
The Sweet - Strung Up ( Double Live & Studio Album ) ~ Really brings back my young years listening to the 70's chart shows
The Kinks - Arthur
The Beatles - Abbey Road ( 50th Anniversary so thought a relisten was due , not their best but plenty to like )
Dark Was the Night - Folk compilation, great easy listening album
-
Re: What Music are you listening to? What music helps you?
I listen to Queen, Journey, Fleetwood Mac, Rammestein, Ozzy , Pat Benatar, Stevie Wonder, Toto, Elton John and many more. Music helps my anxiety.
-
Re: What Music are you listening to? What music helps you?

Re: What Music are you listening to? What music helps you?
Currently on a throwback
Listening to a 70's band called 'The Sweet'
1/2 live 1/2 studio album 'Strung up'
-
Re: What Music are you listening to? What music helps you?
The Sweet's early stuff is great.
Did you know the lead singer suffered badly with depression and struggled with stage fright?
Hard to tell listening to their music and their upbeat performances.
-
Re: What Music are you listening to? What music helps you?
I used to like The Sweet.....Ballroom Blitz, Teenage Rampage...Also used to like T.Rex, Slade.
i didn't know Brian Conley (I think that was his name) had stage fright. I suppose it was anticipatory and went when he went out to sing.
Showing our age here MrsC :roflmao:
-
Re: What Music are you listening to? What music helps you?
Yes Darksky and I expect you know how to 'Tiger Feet' :)
-
Re: What Music are you listening to? What music helps you?
I was listening to T-Rex on my way home:yesyes:
Often wonder why a lot of musicians suffer from depression.
-
Re: What Music are you listening to? What music helps you?
Quinn, they often become musicians because they find music a relief and a distraction.
I like T. Rex too. :)
-
Re: What Music are you listening to? What music helps you?
Or could it be that some had been introduced to drugs,I know in young men, marijuana can cause psychiatric problems.
