I really wonder what's been going on with all these day-to-day fluctuations, where as before, from the 2nd or 3rd of Jan up until last Wednesday, recorded cases were continually climbing on consecutive days.
Well surprisingly, today's cases have declined for the second day running (approx 54k today vs 59k yesterday), even though it's still probably too early as yet to tell whether the new lockdown is having an impact, as going by the first two lockdowns, it was at least 10-14 days before any significant changes occurred.
And before anyone pipes up with 'Well it's only Sunday, blah, blah, blah!', remember it's mostly the deaths count that's affected by weekend/bank holiday lags and not generally the case count, as cases have actually been known to increase significantly on Sundays over the day before (Saturday), last weekend being a typical example. Same also for Mondays over Sundays.
I know full well that we're still far from out of the woods as yet, so I'm not in any way making a song and dancing over it ATM.

Lencoboy - can I ask you to do what I'm doing and just keep away from the numbers?
I'm sure you will feel so much better for it after a few days - I swear it is but one contribution to the very deep, dark hole I'm in at the moment.
Re: Covid-19 discussion thread
Maybe just accept that the daily numbers are excessively high and that keeping tabs on the precise numbers and fluctuations won't tell you anything or help you gain any control over the situation? The only "numbers" you need to worry about are the 3 in your immediate family. Please do try and resist the temptation of researching excessively? I know you need to know everything you can but it won't help your anxiety because at this stage there are no answers, only informed guesses.

Pamplemousse and Pulisa.
You're right. I might lay off it again for the next few days and do what I do best with and for my immediate family (parents) and pet dog.
Surely things will start to get better in due course which we can all look forward to, but still of course, only time will tell.
See you again in a few days.
Re: Covid-19 discussion thread

Maybe you can chat to us about other stuff which is non-Covid related though?
How old is your dog and what breed is he/she? I have 2 guinea pigs and they are demanding divas! I think having pets can really help with anxiety and stress in general.

Oh blimey..Sorry, Vee...Too slow to see your response...
Re: Covid-19 discussion thread
And remember guys, its estimated the daily cases back in March/April were much higher, we just didn't have the testing then. Ignorance was bliss.
Re: Covid-19 discussion thread
OK a dog story of my own...I took our black lab on a single lane route this morning. It goes out into farmland/fields etc. After a while I started seeing twisty dog treats scattered at random intervals along the grass verge. Then I remembered a FB group saying about somebody leaving poisoned bait for foxes in the area. So I collected them in a plastic bag and binned them when I got home. Poisoning is indiscriminate and totally irresponsible, I've reported it to the county dog warden. Kind of a dull story but then this is a small rural town :D
