for anyone that suffers from Agoraphobia

I hope my story might help
I was about 17 when I lost my job. I was in no rush to find another one.
I just stayed around the house with my family. then the holidays arrived.
and I got in to the car. With everyone to go on holiday.
I started to feel sick. and the further we got away from home the worse
I felt. we arrived at the place we were staying and I was in a complete
panic. I was so bad my family had to drive me home and they arranged
for my older brother and his wife to look after me. for 2 weeks
from then on I just could not go out of the house. I was Agoraphobic
it was back in the 1960s when if you had problems like that there was no
help. I stayed in the house for 3 years without seeing a doctor or getting any
help. In the end I was so ill and sick of it I phoned the Samaritans just for
someone to talk to after a time they asked me if I would like to go to there
office I said yes and once a week my brother would drive me to the office
and I would talk to a member for 1 hour after a short time they asked me if
I wanted one of them to befriend me again I said yes and meet a man called
Ted once a week he would pick me up in his car and we would drive somewhere
that I felt safe and we would get out of the car an walk together after some time
when I felt I could he would drop me off and I would walk on my own
to a place and meet him with the car it took about a year but in the end
I started doing thing's on my own that was 40 years ago and I have not had any
problems since then so it is possible to get completely over it

    Congratulations Rugrat

I'm agoraphobic, so I know how difficult it was for you to do that.

    Thanks for sharing.

Although i did get over my Agoraphobia. And I got married,
And divorced and married again. I have still had problems.
With panic and anxiety and depression. All my life I am 61 now.
I think our problems really start when we are children.
But we can overcome and carry on with life. Even though as in
My life every few months I get panic attacks or health anxiety
    And some times deep depression

I have agoraphobia - I can go outside but I have to be escorted with my mum or sister to places. I have learnt to take the dog out for a walk, but I can only go a few metres down the road with the dog.....It is very very rare I am able to get on the bus alone or go anyway alone thesedays....If I do not have someone escorting me to places, then I struggle going outside....I am unable to work or get medical treatment because of my agoraphobia.

Trust me they will help you..Its just someone to talk to .saying your feelings out loud rather then keeping them in your head
