trying again to introduce myself

Hi all,
Glad to have found this website.
I'm middle-aged and I don't really have a poor memory, but after reading some posts here and reading about OCD I see I'm not alone in always having to check to make sure the door is locked, the stove is off, my wallet went back into my purse, etc.
I need to learn how to cope with the "checking" and my anxiety which usually is beating myself up over something I've done or haven't done (usually when it's too late to do something that would have prevented that anxiety - which I don't understand - does this happen to anyone else?).
I hope by sharing with you all that I can learn how to cope better and stop the knots. This seems to be a great site for sharing and I hope you'll share with me.
