anyone else on this daily ?
without it I just cant function at all
Hi,
I used to be on 30mg diazepam per day but am now currently down to 15mg per day. I was taking 30mg for several years and like yourself just could not function without it. I have gradually cut down with the help of my psychiatrist and hope that one day I will not need them at all. Talk to your Dr about reducing your dose. I started by reducing 3mg per day by taking one 5mg and two 2mg tablets three times per day. Each week I reduced it again. Any reduction has to be done slowly. I have been taking diazepam since 1998 and never thought I would have been on them this long.
Good luck
I was on 15mg, 20mg if needed. Down to 12.5mg. Reducing to 12mg next week. Right now, I don't feel as if I could cope on any less.

If you want to reduce, then I would suggest really, really slowly. Like 2.5mg (getting 5mg tablets and halving them) per month.
This is all you will ever need for tapering down as far as you ideally need and would like, promise

just been on a benzo support advice line and its not uncommon to be on 30 mg
phewwww !!
30mg IS a high dose. It's the highest which should be prescribed.
BNF suggests 2mg X3 increased if necessary to 15mg - 30mg.
I'm on 12mg day, doing pretty good....don't think I could function on 30mg that does seem high!
I've know people who have been on treble that amount each day. And the same people are now free from Benzo's.
Good luck Frankie It is possible to flush those Benzo's from the system. It may take time and good judgement on our part. But it is possible.
That said, if you need a tablet, then I wouldn't worry. In your own time when you feel you don't want to take them, then it is possible to do that.

There is a doctor I know who is on 80mg per day ...20mg@ 4times per day !!
BTW, if anybody has been on these Benzo's for about a year, then you can sue the prescriber for first introducing you to them. It is a straightforward process. And already lots of people have reached financial agreements.
They don't tell you this on the label, do they
In fact, lots of people have received good settlements already, at least in in Britain anyway. It is a straighforward process ....but be sure not to settle for a low figure.
You need good advice.
For example, people on Benzo's who went to jail who were then denied Benzo's in jail got a few thousand. And people who were simply on them on 'the outside' for about a year got more.
The fact is those things, while useful, are so, so, addiciting and, unless you were given a written, signed, kind of charter explaining this by the prescriber then you are entitled.
Good luck , Vince
Just checked BNF says this:
By mouth, anxiety, 2 mg 3 times daily increased if necessary to 15–30 mg daily in divided doses; elderly (or debilitated) half adult dose
Insomnia associated with anxiety, 5–15 mg at bedtime
Doctors are free to to ignore the BNF although I doubt very many GP's would prescribe 60mg diazepam a day, a specialist maybe. That said double what the BNF says is pushing it. 60mg is very high. A paramedic/doctor would only administer a maximum of 20mg diazepam IV for someone fitting. Yes they are different routes oral/IV but 60mg is a very very very large dose.

What a load of shi*, the fear of being sued, and people like you are the reasons why doctors are reluctant to prescribe diazepam to those who will not misuse it.
