I was on Prozac for nearly a year and I have to say that it did nothing for the panic attacks but did help with the depression.

I think you will find that a few people have been on them but not had much success at curing panic attacks.

No side effects that I can remember.

I don't think there is such a thing as the "best" med as everyone reacts differently to each one and what works for one person won't work for another.

No they can't kill you when taken correctly and the correct dose.

What about trying some CBT instead of medication?

I had been suffering from anxiety and panic attacks for most of my life.

Starting CBT helped me deal with these issues very effectively, but unfortunately, once I started to recover from these symptoms, I developed depression. Amanda my CBT therapist thought that the depression had been there all along, but the anxiety and panic attacks were more acute so had been at the front.

I tried lots of things to deal with it, but unfortunately, nothing really helped, so I ended up at the doctors and was prescribed a course of Prozac.

I was very very hesitant about taking them, and like you put it off for a while. However, my depression was so bad that in the end, I started taking them.

I know that not everybody has the same experience, but I can honestly say that taking the Prozac was the best thing that I ever did. It even helped to control the last vestiges of anxiety that were lurking in the wings.

For about the first 6 weeks, I didn't really notice much, if any, difference. However, after this, things started to pick up alot for me. I can't say that there was a major lightbulb moment, or that I woke up one morning and wanted to run a marathon, but slowly and surely, my mood started to lift, and I now have my life back.

I would recommend to anybody that it is worth trying Prozac. I am fully aware that they don't work for everybody, that they may present side effects in some people, and that they aren't a total solution, but my experience has been very very positive.

From not daring to trying them, I can now say that they have been a fantastic help in the battle to regain my mind and soul!

    Good luck.

    Love

    Charlie

p.s. feel free to PM me, if you wish to discuss anything further
