    2 weeks in

Hi all! I am new to this site after reading it for about a month now. I have been taking 10mg for 2 weeks now and just wanted any advice. How long does it take to kick in?

My problem is obsessive thoughts which I get upset over and can't shift and I catastrophise everything. A girl I know killed herself last year and I am absolutely terrified of ending up like that even though I'm scared of death. Maybe that's why I'm so terrified!

I'm seeing my doctor tomorrow and want to up my dose to 20mg. Do most people notice a difference when they up the dose?

Thanks for any help I get

Hi clc, yes it can take up to 4 weeks or so to feel any benefit from citalopram.

Most people start on 10mg and stay there for about 2 weeks then increase, i'm sure your gp will want you to increase to 20mg.

Stay with it as when it kicks in you will feel a lot better, but it taked time. good luck x

i found that the citalopram normally took 4 weeks to kick in. I've been on it twice. This time for 3 years. I'm switching to sertraline as the cit has stopped working for me now.

It definitley gave me a boost and put me on an even keel.

Stick with it, you'll get there
