My first visit to "Anxiety Group" in sheffield

Hi everyone, last thursday I attended my first anxiety group meeting, (in Sheffield)I was very "anxious" walking in but was soon made to feel at ease by the "Facilitators" thats what they are called. It was a small gathering 8 people who I assume were or had or currently dealing with different issues of anxiety, depression, ocd etc. I have health anxiety and have had it for about 3 years now. As it was my first meeting I was understandable nervous, but after about half an hour (it is a two hour group meeting) I began to "talk" ! I got a lot from the first meeting, listening to other people, it opened my eyes to how other people are effected and cope with it. Im really looking forward to the next meeting(they are fortnightly) hopefully I will get to know everyone more and maybe form a few friendships with people who can understand what it is "we" are going through! I m feeling very positive about it, and looking towards a brighter future.

That's great news I'm happy for you. I wish there was something like that were I am. I feel very alone that's why this website is a life saver to me sometimes.

Yeah, im lucky to have found it actually it was only because i had posted on here (that someone pointed me in the right direction) Ive actually passed the details on at my docs today so if anyone else can benefit from a group like this in my area its available. Yh, I agree this website as been a life saver for me too at my lowest points, however it can also be a bit of a negative as well, because I will read some of the threads and then start to convince myself that I have "Some of these symtomps"! and then get in a "Panick" (YESSSSS My health anxiety kicking in again) !!xx

Yep I agree. There is no question that NMP has helped, especially when you feel rubbish and you just need confirmation you are not alone. However at times it has sent me into a complete panic and I have developed symptoms from it.
I suppose you just have to be careful, and take a break from it sometimes.

But in times of need it has been a huge support.
