    Anti-depressants and anti-histamines

    Hi there,

Does anyone know if it's ok to take anti-histamines whilst taking anti-depressants? I'm on venlafaxine and occasionally sometimes get hay fever. Normally, I would take piriton but I'm not sure if I should. I've checked the information leaflets and it doesn't mention any interactions but I wondered if anyone else has experience.

    Thanks

    Pip

I was at chemist only a couple of days ago , and looking for something to relieve my blocked nose , Im on mirtazipine , citalopram , co-codamol 30/500, dicloflenac and atenolol and they gave me an anti histamine for hay fever although its cold related. Other than my own experience and not being a doctor , my advice only based on my own experience

Thanks Bignik. I'm pretty sure it'll be fine as it isn't mentioned anywhere on the information as a problem and I've also checked online. Good to know others' experiences though.

I was on both of these medications last year and never experienced any problems at all with them.

    Hi there,

A quick update for anyone who reads this. I spoke to my pharmacist about this today and she said not to take piriton but only because it will make you very drowsy when taken with SSRIs or SNRIs. Instead, she recommended Zyrtec which I've now taken (for some particularly itchy insect bites - in March!!), and it seems fine.
